I also am not trying to force anyone to remove it . In addition to what has already been said ,I wish to submit that even the not moving benefit is of great importance. I have a mechanical water temp gage and don't rely or believe the stock one....I can see my water temp climb to the 240 degree temperature after being in boost if you think just idling for 3 minutes gets it to a reasonable level you'd better invest in the mechanical gage. I know the pieces I've removed inhance the standstill cooling . That alone justifies removal to me.

Whats all the Hub Bub about the Wheather strip. CraigO needs to take a chill pill. I have been looking at the engine temp issue again now that we are all moving into warmer summer months. My solution is to redirect the air coming into the right vent under the fog light with a snorkle and blow air directly on to the turbo. You can tie down the snorkle with tie downs thru the headlight gap, along the right wheel well directly to the turbo.
If DC enginered for hot air passing over the engine to duct down the firewall to help cool the turbo, then that is a piss poor enginering application. Heat rises and when your in bumper to bumper traffic I prefer letting heat vent to where the heat wants to go. Why let the heat build up and effect other engine components. So with real world driving in mind, stop and go traffic, street lights and cross walks air travelling from the radiator over the hot engine has little to no chance of happening. All I know is when I'm done with my 1/2 hour commute, with the strip on, the engine is too hot to place my hand over the manifold and even the air filter box, in fact the entire engine is hot; a 1/2 hour commute without the strip and the heat buildup inside the engine compartment is greatly minimized. The turbo is going to get hot no matter what, and that's all right because it is designed to get hot, the airbox, carb and manifold likes it better when its cool. This mod was never addressed to cool the Turbo, if thats the case then it would make more sense to increase the capacity of the intercooler. Air cooling a turbo makes sense in aero dynamics when your flying a turbo prop at a constant speed, but air cooling a turbo in an automible is not very efficient. Maybee adding heat sinks to the turbo's design might allow for air cooling efficiency. Now that I think about it, my tests with the strip showed me that above 20 mph the air flow began to pull air from the back of the hood where the strip used to be, the design of the conture in the hood insulation is probably channeling the air from the radiator over the engine, directed by the conture down the fire wall, pass the turbo. So does this mean that the air coming in from behind the hood (cool air, I should add) is being drawn down the firewall too? If we are talking aerodynamics here does this sound possible? Could it be possible that at speed, cool air from the base of the hood is being pulled into the engine bay because of and eginered conture of the underhood insulation, which in turn could be cooling the turbo even more effeciently the with the strip in place? Intruiging, I'll have to take out me' Ole temperture guage out one more time and see. But in the mean time, get the best of both worlds, remove the strip to vent out the heat and add a snorkle to cool your turbo's. ![]()

Hey Now! Someone who isn't afraid to be innovative and try to improve upon something? How refreshing.[?] I can never leave well enough alone. I am always looking for ways to improve. That is why I ripped my original engine out (2001 LE) and started from scratch; because it wasn't done right the first time. Now, it is correct. This is the world according to Anthony of course.

I would like to see a pic of your homemade snorkel Strangelove. Can you post one?

So I guess these aftermarket COWL induction hoods are useless? Looks only?[:I]

Hey Ant,
Nice engine, is that yours on Stockum's site. I'll try to get some pics soon of the snorkle. The mod envolves diverting the air fro below the front bumper, just under the fog light. I fabricated an air scoop, but the same thing can be done by adding a small sheet of plastic to the vent. To snake the air channel through the engine bay I used flexible tubing and tied it down with zip ties to whatever look good to tie to. The snorkle ducts along the fender well and down the fire wall to the turbo where cool air exhausts in the general area of the turbo. As for cowl induction they work great for getting cool air into your combustion. Personally I am trying to keep my PT looking as stock as possible, the cowl look is not for me.
