Default 1st time at the track

new here to the forums
i went to the track this week and ran my GT my best run was a14.4 at 96 mph-had horrible reaction times though. my problem was i spun the wheels thru 1st and 2nd and i also have an auto stick. i put on new tires and rims last month i have 245's on an 18'rim , we thought that would solve it but it didn't. i guess i need aa set of slicks.
Can anyone give me some advice on getting the rubber on the ground, to get better traction so i can get my 0-60 under 2 seconds.
i will appreciate your input thanks

I had the same problem but I adjusted my launch from the line.

I used to load the converter and spool up the turbo, this would give me horrible 60' times.
I have learend that the best launch for our car was straight from idle. This way the Turbo lag would help you start to move the car and then jump forward.

Did you drive through the water box before you ran? I know it's a dumb question, but if you did, this would explain excess wheel-spin.The key is definitely getting the 60' under 2.0. When I did this on the two Dakota R/Ts I used to have, the ET dropped by more than half a second.
Slicks are the best way to go, but you really really have to heat them up, and I'm not so sure the transaxle and axles would appreciate it very much.

no i did not go thru the water box, and thats not a dumb question, because i asked that before i went to the track. i'm not worried about my axles, i have already upgraded my axles, they can handle 500 hp and over 500lbs of torque, at least thats what the spec sheet states.my gt has alot of torque im told and thats the problem .
i still am leaning towards a set of slicks, i think that maybe my only option at this point if i am going to get to the 13's (hopefully )

kruzzinpt,

Where did you find the upgraded axles and how much does that run? Did you notice if the axles were of equal length?

Did you notice more torque-steer when you went from the 2-piece to the one-piece pass side axle? That's how Chrysler and Shelby lessened the torque-steer on the 2.2/2.5 turbo cars, by going to a half-shaft design.
