Well, last night I drove down to Test-N-Tune at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds,GA. This place is 35 miles West of Macon, and 55 miles East of Columbus.
On the way down, I drove through severe rain and figured there would be no racing (the track is about an hour and tenminutes from me).I got there and conditions were good except for the humidity.Since there was rain in the area, I figure it must have been at or near 100%.Temps were around 80-85 with no Sun.I'mnot sure of the elevation of the track.I left all of the seats, spare, etc in the car.The car has about 2500 miles on it and still has the paper air filter in and is completely stock. I made my first 3 runs back to back as soon as I arrived, fearing rain might washus out early. My first run was from idle, in A/S mode, with traction control on.I don't feel I needed the trac control on as the track was plenty sticky.I had a horrible reaction time (been over a year since I last ran at the track) and my 60' time was 2.414.I ran a 15.85 @ 86.63MPH. I was fairly disappointed. My second run was 10 minutes later, and this time I turned the trac off and left at 1000RPM in A/S mode.It had negligable effect as I ran a 15.83 @ 85.93 MPH with a 2.323 60'.My RT was .472 (Red Light). Run # 3 was 10 minutes after that, and I left at idle in A/S with trac off.Again, no real difference as I turned a 15.86 @ 86.35 with a .583 RT and a 2.427 60'. For my last run, I waited about 35 minutes, and it did help the car. I left with a .414 RT (Red Eye!), had a 2.306 60', and ran a 15.639 @ 86.83 MPH.This was launching at 1500RPM with Trac Off and in A/S mode. Not sure if the launch effected it, but the cooling certainly did. I wanted to wait until the car was fully cooled before the next run, but the rain finally cameand they called it a night at about 9:10PM.The only good news was they said next time there we could use the same tech card, so a freebie. ![]() Next time I go, maybe today if the weather holds, I'll try the old ice all over the engine before I run trick. When I did this on my 98 Dakota R/T club cab once, I went from a 15.4 to a 14.89 in one run. I'm also going to look closer at the intercooler and see if there's a way to make something on top of itto hold some dry ice somehow. Really this was all just to get some baseline times before anymods, that way I can see if they're working when I do them. Neat things at the track: a guy in an older Civic hatchback was running low low 11's, another guy in a later model CIvic sedan was running 12's and 13's, and there was some fag in a hideous Saturn coupe with doors that opened like a Lambroghini that I never saw a time on.I mean, this car was pale yellow, had ground effects and wings all over it, and just looked gay as hell.I thought only women drove Saturns anyway?! I swear he had his hair dyed the same color as the car too, oh and of course he had so much vinyl on the carit probably cost him a tenth. Anywho, I'll try some diff things next time and work on my RTs. For anyone in the area, I would recommend Silver Dollar Raceway. Very friendly people, especially if you have never been at a track.Really good facilities, although I wish the time slips had the elevation, ambient temp, humidity, etc on them. They'll have another T-N-T tonight from 5-9, and maybe to 10 if they get at least 100 cars,so if anyone's in the area, come on out.If the weather looks good, I'll be down there. My car # will be 35 if I am. |

OK, so Iwent back to the track yesterday. Because it rained us out on Friday,I got to play for free on Saturday.
This trip Ileft the rear seats and the spare at home. I had just a hair under 1/4 tank.I also yanked off the weatherstripping on the cowl side of the hood.Weight with me in it,without the seats and spare was 3345. I weigh about 185. I let the car cool down before my first run for about 30 minutes, and when I ran, I was in A/S mode, with Trac Off, and the heat on.I did better than the night before with a 15.28 @ 89.70. 60' was 2.269. For the second run, I bought a $1.50 bag of ice, packed it all over the top of the engine, and let it cool down about 40 minutes,or until all of the ice was gone.I launched at 1500 RPM in A/S with Trac Off.I got the best time so far with a 15.11 @ 91.01 with a 2.258 60' time. I did *severalmore runs that night (12 runs in all), including 5 runs within 15 minutes at one point. It wasn't crowded at all, I think because they only run T-N-T every other Saturday, and most people come out for it on Fridays. My slowest was a 15.81 @ 88.02. The car seems like it will run pretty consistent 15.35s even if you run it back to backwith no cool down. Remember this is on a car with no modifications.Paper air filter, etc., and 2900 miles on it. Fastest small car was again the same CIvic as Friday, witha gutted interior and a ton of stuff done to it running low 12s. Neatest things I saw included a POS FOcus SVT running high-16s, and a guy running a beat-up 79 F-150 4x4 with 32" tires. He was actually pretty good for what he had, pulling in times in the upper 16s. Hope to see some of you West GA,Mid GA,and East AL guys there sometime.
