Do you suppose that a split (dual) system could be crafted without a muffler, too?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Can anyone tell me whether they have removed their muffler, split the pipe and installed dual tips?

BTW, neither I nor my wife (the car's primary driver) want to have it heard "from a mile away" as a previous writer indicated.

Let me hear from you! Thanks!

I did a split on my Pontiac Fiero exhaust. Didnt work to good unless you have two split pipes exactly the same length. Or which ever one is shorter make it a smaller diameter then the other side.

had been thinking of doing this since I ran into a guy with a turbo lite who'd done it. Sounded good, not like a honda. I'm going to try it this weekend on the 03 NA, will see how it sounds.

If you like loud you'll probably like it. On the PT turbo, the turbo muffles the exhaust while on the non turbo PT it will a straight shot and will be louder.

Everyone keeps saying it's loud. No it's not. If it was loud I wouldn't have passed emissions and been able to license it. If you haven't removed a muffler on a Turbo PT GT then honestly you don't know how one sounds.

Again I'll say if you do it and don't like it the muffler will install right back where you disconnected it from. If you like then your next step is to take it to your local exhaust shop and have them fab a pipe out the back for you with a nice chrome tip. They can also do a dual pipe off the existing single so you'll have duals out the back if that is what you like.

Back to the sound. I have had several people at my job say it sounds great. I work at a Ford dealership. We all know what our Mustang GTs and Shelby's sound like with exhaust and yes a Turbo PT doesn't sound like one of them but it sounds damn good with no muffler. It's a very performance rumble and even getting on it it's not what I would call loud at all. The turbo acts as a muffler and does a very good job. A non turbo-ed PT without a muffler would be stupid loud. This doesn't, and again I love it and saved $500 on an exhaust. The less restriction in the exhaust the faster the turbo will spool. No muffler vs an aftermarket muffler, which one do you think creates less back pressure? Yes no muffler at all.

Now you ask have a I noticed any performance increase? No but it still hauls ass and sounds like it hauls ass as well.

So try it. If you don't like it the stock exhaust will install back on the car.

After you take the exhaust off start the car and give it about 3 seconds. The exhaust will be a little louder right when you start the car until the turbo spools up a little. 3 seconds after the car is started is all the louder it will ever be. Rev it up a little and enjoy. I really like it.

Here a couple of link to what it sounds like. Not my car but sounds similar. The auto only pops and burbles that much when in drive 1 or 3 in "D" it is not so much. This car was a manual

Idling and takeoff:
