Well maybe w/ this tax season I can play around w/ different intakes, and possibly get the stage 1. Since my brother is a mopar tech he can install for free. or just a case of beer! I'm most likey going to head w/ Adam, he's still selling his kits, i received an email from him stating he was still selling. I might change the air filter for an enclosed. I'm still searching for a good one.

thank you all for the tips and opinions!!

I have gone with many performance intakes over the years on a variety of vehicles. Lots has been said about using or doing away with an air box. What I have found is it makes absolutely no difference, the air box might help to prevent water from hitting your intake if you are driving in a lake but a separator like a K&N by no means is going to effect air temperature on a moving vehicle.

What is fact: A performance intake the cheapest $ per horsepower upgrade you can treat your PT cruiser to and open air gives you even more bang for the buck and more airflow.

Gas mileage.....a very high percentage of fuel savings comes from how you drive, if you like the increased horsepower and to "drive hard" you will likely not save fuel.

Big whoop. For a turbo car with stock turbo I've seen 3-4 hp gain on PT GT with an open intake. Because of sucking in hot air an open intake kills torque. Seen it on the dyno. If you know how to mod the stock airbox and use a drop in filter you'll have better performance. Only if you can enclose the the intake and keep out the hot air will you have a performance system that is worth using. With running high hp the stock system would not be efficient, though.

3-4 hp with airbox?? the factor is heat- where are you at climate? Also consider on a dyno you are not moving- low airflow thus more heat. no doubt application does make a huge differance.

thoughts on fuel economy? for air- fuel trim changes as set by computer....

3-4 hp with stock airbox and drop in filter and 3-4 for an open intake. The loss of torque with an open intake is what I don't like. Yes, the dyno isn't real world when compared to real driving, but the big fan up front does help a lot. My last two cars have been turbo'd and it seems to me that dumping even hotter air from the engine into the intercooler decreases the efficiency of the intercooler. I am not that versed in na engines, but it seems to me that colder air would benefit them, too.

I proved this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ on the dyno,, I would have to dig up the sheets,, but if memory serves me,, I wanna say around 15hp GAINED over the VAK system if you use the stock air box vs the open air cleaner.

Wow,
I read that thread about the dyno results, makes me want to re-route my aircon output from inside the car into the airbox!

how do you guys think is the way to replace the box to turbo plastic tube, doyou take it off and to walk up and down the isles in the aurozone store room looking for something suitable?
Or is there a part you guys know of that will do the job better than the stock one?
