Default 50HP Nitrous system for turbo

I'm no motor-head, so can those of you in the know confirm or deny whether this can be done safely (or at all) on a GT?

It can be done AT58 is running 75 hp on his GT . However I believe to do it right/safely the total cost will be over $1000.00 AT58 had MX5 help get it working correctly and dyno'd it .

Yeah, you can't just get the basic kit.You need to have bottle warmers, blow-down tubes, purge valves, fuel-pressure cut-off switches, etc. to make it truly safe, and even then it's a stretch.

Hold on!!!!!

I've posted about this guy before!
In fact, I've instaled Edelbrock nitrous kits, but not for a PT.
That's a DRY kit! Stay away!
Here's a quote from the auction:
"The extra fuel is generally supplied through the injectors by raising the pressure or changing the duty cycle. Dry nitrous systems are the SAFEST and most RELIABLE way to get power gains"

There is no way to increase the fuel with the PT's returnless fuel system. The regulator is inside the fuel tank. You MUST use a wet kit. This means that fuel and nitrous are added together to increase power.
The most popular and PT specific kit is from NitrousWorks.
Here's an online install guide:
http://www.ptdoityourself.net/ptnitrousguide.html

Yes, you can shoot at leat 75hp on top of the turbo.
I'm a little over 100hp on my N/A PT, but that's the limit.

If you want an NOS kit go with the ZEX kit for the PT.

http://www.zex.com/

It is a "Wet" Nitrous system. It includes an electronic controller and uses the TPS as a reference in order for it to supply the Fuel and NOS mixture proportionally, not in full blast in one shot. They claim it is the safest system on the market because it measures the nitrous and adds fuel to compensate and both come out thru one injector at the intake.

It is a "Wet" system because it supplies the fuel also thru the intake manifold and no adjustments need to be done to the injectors or factory computer.

Yes I have a NitrousWorks wet system on my GT. I have it set up for 75HP and it seems smooth there. Ran the fuel line into the end of the fuel rail and the injector is mounted in the rubber hose just in front of the intake. I am quite happy with it and so far no problems. Also I should say I don't run a warm blanket or purge system so my total cost was around $500.00 shipped and installed.

Here's a copy of my email to Edelbrock and their response regarding the dry nitrous system and our GT turbo with and without the stage 1:

Subject: nitrous kit #70600

Will kit # 70600 work on the 2003 TURBO GT PT Cruiser? Chrysler just came out with a stage 1 kit. Will it work with the kit?

Thank you.

#70600 is for a non-turbo PT Cruiser.

An experienced professional could make it work, just make sure that the fuel system is up to the task. We don't recommend it, but the choice is up to you.
Please send any replies to mlin@edelbrock.com
Include a copy of this entire e-mail with your reply in order to help our technical representatives help you more thoroughly.
Thank you.

Sincerely,
The Edelbrock Tech. Dept.

Randy,

(are you part of Goodwin racing??)
http://www.good-win-racing.com/goodwinracing_002.htm

Let's ask Edelbrock EXACTLY how they plan to get more fuel into the PTs engine to make up for a dry nitrous kit?
Other than an aftermarket (expensive) fuel pump, I cannot see what they have in mind.
You need a metered and regulated fuel supply to add to the nitrous to make it work. The power comes from the fuel. Nitrous is non-flammable.

Turbo PT or regular PT, you need a wet kit.

Adapting generic kits like ZEX, Venom, or Edelbrock is a pain in my ass. The NitrousWorks kit is made for the PT. Not cutting or adapting the kit is needed. Everything is made to fit. Beware that the NitrousWorks kit for the Neon is different. Be sure to get the PT kit.

Search for bottle refills here:

MX:

Nitrous oxide is just that, lotsa oxygen. That's why fuel needs to be added, or you've got a blow torch.

To answer your question, I have my own TA/FC team that's been idle for the last 2 years. Here's a pic:

And I currently own this car:

And I am responsible for this car:

But I'm not related to the Good-Win racing guys you mentioned.

We run methanol alcohol with a PSI screw supercharger putting out about 50 pounds of boost. We've run a best of 5.64 seconds at 255 miles per hour.

Randy
