I'm thinking of upgrading my turbo to a Garrett GT25R, capable of a rediculous amount of boost. It's a ballistic dual roller ball bearing turbo.[8)]
So the question of the day is: How much boost can our motor hold??? |

Add the turbo fine, about 22 lbs. What are you
going to do for fuel to support the boost?

I thought that I read somewhere the pt's headgasket is only rated around 16 psi.

According to ALL of the posts that I can find, The Pt Turbo block/heads will only handle a max of 16 pounds boost safely. Any more boost than that on a regular basis causes problems with the head gasket over a period of time. I should imagine that there may be some aftermarket solutions available to address that issue. I would imagine that the head gasket would survive some period of time, but who knows how long? Why risk it ?
Thats my 2 cents worth 1.33 cents after taxes. [8)] Alan |

Yeah, the head gasket does pose an issue...that i'm not sure how to solve...
But, as for the fuel... - high pressure fuel regulator - high pressure fuel pump - high flow injectors (Stage one injectors) - and other miscellaneous fuel delivery items To those who doubt, here's a GREAT link http://www.impactparts.com/PTcruiser...o_Charger.html ....and .....now....ok you can pick up your jaw and wipe off the drool This could be used as an upgrade kit with some fabrication (i think)

Head gasket problems?
Get intouch with a good speed shop and check out options like, 1 Good quality head gasket, Felpro for one. I used to run a 355 chevy at 16-1 compression on alky,Felpro was the best 2 O-ring the head or any better idea, also need to consider head bolts, are you going to need a larger fuel supply line. If you don'thave one now, an exhaust gas temp guage, pyrometer. Keep EGT around 1500, Pistons start to melt at around 1600, Also bottom end, rods come to mind. as long as everything goes right, rods are probally ok, but get detonation and who knows? I unfortuneatly don't know the 2.4 well enough to know all the details, I am just thinking back to when I used to run the Chevy as basics. Look up Bob Stockum, from what I have read, he seems VERY knowledgeable with HIGH performance PTs' Tom |

If the head gasket blows at 16PSI, and you replace it with one that will hold up over 16PSI, what would go next?
Seems that replacing a gasket with no real damage to mechanical assemblies would be a lot cheaper safety valve than putting in a gasket that holds higher boost pressure to determine what the next thing to fall off will be.... I can't say for sure if this is a valid concern, but.... If the top end pressures created from the pistons going up produce enough pressure to take out a head gasket (from pressure) what do you think happens when those pistons go back down? (pressure in the bottom end). The PCV system can vent a certain degree of bottom end pressure to protect the seals (among other things), but there has to be a practical limit to what it can do. It may be worth looking into the differences in design that are used in cars that are made to run with 20+ PSI boost. OTOH, the stage II turbo is supposed to be a bolt on for the GT. I think it only changes volume, and not pressure. |

check out paeco. If you send them a stock one they can make a custom Copper Head Gasket for you. about 190 bucks.
I've used their stuff on prior cars and it's GREAT quality! i think i paid around 200 bucks with shipping for a copper head gasket from them IF my memory serves me right. Also look into stronger rods and pistons as well if you plan on large Tq and HP numbers. www.paeco.com VERY nice guys to work with and deal with. I HIGHLY recommend them. can't forget the fuel system as was mentioned before. Eh.. i see I'm late, I've been beaten to saying everything from O-ringing the head to engine internals and fuel system upgrades. As for felpro i've had good luck with them, but by the same token I've had VERY good luck with paeco. I guess it's six to one a half dozen to the other.
