those little "K&N" filters are designed for this. I had a problem fitting mine on b/c of the tube running from the I/C to the Throttle body, since it runs so close over top. Trimming the stock hose running to the airbox and placing a filter on it is the best way to go. The filter has to be secured to one of the steel lines running along side the the motor.
The other option is to run the stock vacuum hose into the tube running to the turbo from the intake. Doing this will allow you to pass emissions with no probs. It may also look a little cleaner. Most aftermarket intakes have this already, so look for a good turbo up intake system.

If you're going to run the hose to the intake be sure to put a compressor liquid filter in the line. Available @ Wal mart for 9-10 dollars. This will let you vent the the intake without dumping oil into the intake tube and the turbocharger. The filter has a schrader valve on the bottom to empty the bowl when necessary. I have a small filter on that hose venting outside. I will, before State inspection replace it w/the liquid filter/vacum hose to the intake setup. I currently use the AMX1397 turbo up intake w/the vacum fitting for that hose capped off with a vacum cap.
Thats my two cents. ![]() Alan |

COPTZER...that is still venting external. To pass smog you cannot vent with a filter (at least in CA). It has to run back to the intake.

Saki
Let me know how it turns out. From reading alot of posts here and other forums it seems to be too loud for some of the Cruisers taste and they end up getting rid of it. [:I] By the way, when I first got the Cruiser I always told myself that the biggest two mods I would do would be the exhaust and a cold air intake system. One down one to go. ![]() I just discovered that I can do a sound track with my digital camera and if I can figure out how to use it and up load it to Imagestation I'll post my Cruiser at a stand still with engine running and also a pass by. If I can do it I think that would be pretty neat.[?] |

Installed P/N 300-138 Airaid systems an hour ago.
System is terrific. I do not think you should consider any other system now on the market. Incidently, Airaid retains the use of the bottom part of the GT intake. This means you can use the feature of getting cold air from the fender well, with out hot air getting into the intake system. I painted the bottom section and the Airaid system with body color paint. I also left in the fender silencer but filled the holes of the silencer. I also cut off about three inches of the tubing inside the box. The good part is, the systems fits right against the hood but.......... they left about a eight opening next to the hood. If you now cut, which I did immediately, you also have a ram air input from the side of the hood. I cut the trim to match the angle of the hood. Use a small serated kitchen knife and only cut deep enought to cut off the the rubber leaving the hood trim intact so you do not see the metal below the trim. You also get extra decals ( for painting ) Paint 2.4 L on intake manifold with touch up paint while your at it. Happy Boosting! |

fifilund...is the pipe that goes down to the turbo replaced with the system or does it just connect to the stock pipe?
