Default Classic speed parts

I have two questions concerning aftermarket parts for the group. First, has anyone attempted to use underdrive pulleys from the 2.4 neon on the GT? Second, has anyone tried using a straight through universal muffler? I have been thinking of putting a dynamax super-flo on my GT

1) I'd use the 2.4 N/A pt UD pulley if anything, or are you talking about the SRT-4, that would prob be the best
2)A straight through universal muffler will yield more results in the acoustic department than performance (which is minimal). For a true gain try going with a turbo-back system.

Thanks for the pulley suggestion. The only problem w/ the turbo back idea is of course what to do w/ the cat. I do not want to be that aggressive, just looking for a couple extra ponies. The BTG and Borla units are enticing BUT pricey. What would be the diff. between their units and the dynaflow? By the way, the folks at flowmaster stated over the phone that none of their products work well at all w/ the GT. In their words "the car fell flat"

Item 1:
Underdrive pulleys reduce coolant flow, maybe not important if you drive a lot of short freeway, but long hot trips, or multiple short hard trips will stress the cooling system (water cooled Turbo bearings). Your choice though.

Item 2:
Some people are singularly unimpressed with the cat back exhaust systems available, but, as an owner I can tell you that my PTs performance AND mileage has gone up dramatically. Performance is subjective, so I can't do more than point to the verbage in the "Turbo Exhaust " post on this website, BUT mileage is hard numbers. Yesterday i just got back from an LA to Vegas and back: a 4000 ft altitude climb with lots of traffic, and my speeds were well over 100mph.... overall gas mileage: slightly more than 26mpg. My around town mileage increased also by about 5mpg. These numbers are mine, I only have a K&N drop in as mods to the engine, so you be the judge.

Sorry, I missed the most important part of your post: The BTG Dual that I have is a resonator type exhaust much like the glasspacks you are talking about. Two landmines to look out for:
1) Make sure that you get enough sound abatement..new laws going into effect across the nation on noise polution!
2) Resonance; at about 3000 rpm, noise is a real problem with some systems (sounds like a big bass drum inside the car).

Sorry about this number thing, I guess I'm making lists today.

I would concur with Kirby's comments regarding the pulley. Perhaps hop over to the SRT forum and inquire about longevity.

Regarding the exhaust system, I went to a local muffler shop and asked his opinion. He stated that he had had good success using a glass pack originally designed for the Camaro on the local Neons. Ran a downtube to the glasspack, then "Y'd" the setup at the axle to get a great-looking/sounding dual system. The exhaust system AND installing a hidden hitch cost $258 (I've posted pics of the dual system elsewhere on the links).

Don't know yet about performance--I'm modifying the car but still babying it--only have 1K miles on it. I have a Stage I on order--when I install that, I will change to synthetics (oil, transmission fluid) and do some times to see what kinds of gains have been made.
BTW, HIGHLY recommend AMX's intake (and customer service).

Is AMX still making them? I have been thinking of getting some kind of intake.

I don't know--he was talking about getting out of the business. Suggest you send him an email: AMX1397@aol.com. I am certainly
enjoying my intake, and it definitely makes a difference in both
sound AND performance--I certainly know when the BOV opens now.

You can run an aftermarket universal "flex-pipe", which can be found at muffler shops. Also, i believea down pipe is about to hit the market from Exhaust Depot. Then place your stock cat inline between the DP and Exhaust. It all depends how you think of exhaust sound/noise to some. I have straight pipes and LOVE the sound. People ask all the time if i have a V8 swap???!!![8)]. Especially when it pumps DONEUP honda's w/ NoS... B16s, ZC's, H22's and even one Type R.[?]

The cooling issue is huge to me. My car is used quite often on the highway. Cooking the motor for a couple of ponies would be silly.
