OK, I use a UDP on my Neon, and have installed several on other Neons. The horsepower returned varies depending on the % of underdrive. The fact that pulley is lighter really has nothing to do with horsepower, but rather, how quickly the engine will spin up. The rotating mass is less so the engine will spin up faster. Some of the guys found that a UPD will have issues keeping a battery charged if they are using LARGE amps and speaker systems. I am in Texas and mine keeps the AC nice and cold, don't have a huge sound system so that is not an issue. Several companies make UDPs. Modern Performance (Houston, TX) Unorthodox Racing, and Howell Automotive (West Virginia) just to name a few. I think Mopar has one also.
Hope this helps. Mike |

I'm beating a dead horse, but if it saves one PT owner from making an unknowing mistake........
Modify the engine with an Under Drive Pulley, have an electronics problem like: bobs turbo pt The service technician would be within his rights to say - you modified the charging cycle, forced either low charge situation, or ruined electronics by charging the battery. NO WARRANTY. I've been there and seen warranty work unpaid for flimsier excuses. I just think that any modification should be done knowng the possible pitfalls, not bashing the mod. |

Depends on the service writer. I had my Neon warranty extended to 5 years 60,000 by my DC dealer knowning full well the car was running headers, a UDP, Iceman CAI, bored out TB, Racing PCM, solid motor mounts and more. And during that time I had the head gasket replaced and a few other issues that the warranty covered. My service writer knew the car and when replacing the head gasket called me to ask how to get the UDP off without breaking it.

I don't know if it's Texas or not, but it seems that in some areas of this great country Honesty and Integrity aren't just words.
