Default How to stop wheel hop?

Wheel hop has become a huge problem for me since I've raised the car's power, especially since I've added wider and stickier tires. I've tried varying launch RPM's to no avail. Does anyone have a solution or know of harder engine and transmission mounts that might help?

i put 245/40/r18 and my rims are 18x8" ,that helped me considerably. Though i have an auto, and i launch about 2500 with very little spin, but i have no hop anymore. I know there are alot of you that have much more experience than i do, but thats my .02$
GSH- how much power are you putting down?

I would referr you to PVOs post on beefing up the motor mounts (with 3M Windoweld)....I think that MP is now making a set for the SRT-4.

That and slipping the clutch in first.

Heres something you can try.Remove one of you motor mounts. Buy a polyurethane cutting board, and place the mount on top of it. Trace the shape of the mount onto the board and cut it out, you will probably need a jigsaw or something of the sort. You will need two for each mount. After you have the pieces cut out, place them on either side of the mount and reinstall.

You have to look at your launch technique. If you're just dropping the clutch, you aren't getting your best times. The more spin/noise, the slower you go. If you aren't doing it already, try slipping the clutch in first while launching.
Try reving to just around 2000RPM, then slipping through first; to avoid excessive spin. Also, to improve your 1/4 times, try power shifting. I've found it works very well with this engine/tranny combo.

Thanks for the advice guys. I rarely drop the clutch, choosing instead to slip the clutch while launching at 2000 rpm. The problem is the friggin tires tend to break loose before I power shift. Once the break loose, its wheel-hop city until I back off, and then it's all over. My Firehawk SZ50's are infinitely better than the stock Goodyears, but until I solve the wheel hop, my "street sweeping" action is going to be limited.

Looks like it's time for me to start thinking about fabricating solid mounts for the engine and tranny.

A limited slip diff wouldn't hurt either.

Good idea, except the only LSD's i've found so far are those crappy bolt on bracket type things. They snap like balsa (sp?) wood. But, no i don't regularly rip up my tranny, only when it is deemed "necessary". Hell, you have a warrantee for a reason. On my '01 they replaced my tranny at 16,000km, NO QUESTIONS!! And it was modded to hell.
If you're slipping the clutch and your still getting hop, then you're engaging the clutch to much, try slipping a little lighter (ie. taking away more power from the wheels) See how that works out for you.[^]
