I purchased one from Tommy. No regrets, although I haven't recceived & installed it yet. My biggest question is the noise. If you're saying it's louder than a relatively loud exhaust system, then I'm not sure it's for me.

Don't get me wrong, I want the performance and turbo longevity benefits of dumping excess pressure from the intake...but is there anything else available on the market that can do this without all the noise. I know escaping air under pressure will always make some noise, but it wouldn't seem to be too difficult to increase the outlet area to decrease gas velocity, and reduce "hiss".

Any thoughts? Has anyone seen other options that would do the same job more stealthily?
The stock surge valve actually does all of the work. The Mopar BOV isn't really the valve, but a vent that dumps into the engine bay instead of back into the turbo inlet. Just a noise-maker, no performance advantage over the stock system.

Yeahh...

Surge and blow-off valves prevent the compressor from dead-heading when the throttle closes - which really slows it down, and eventually fatigues the compressor blades. Heard of water-hammer? Same thing. Compressor will continue to spin happily when there is no boost being made because of the huge leak the valve causes, no matter where it goes.

Keep an open mind, somebody might actually know what they are talking about - instead of thinking they know.

Nope, still no power change to drive compressor for venting outside versus inside.

Stage 1 doesn't dead-head any more than the stock unless you remove the surge valve completely and block it off.

Like I said, just a fun noisemaker. I'm guilty of making my exhaust louder because it was too tame...

Thoes are some pretty slow times for a pt 5 spd. Were you at milan? I have the same mods and ran a 14.19 w 17's. 13.7- with 15's drag radial.

If thats the case I need to cancel my back ordered BOV with no promise date. I have no desire for a fun noisemaker. I just ordered it because Mopar Performance make a point of saying,"Optimized calibration for the MOPAR blow off valve conversion kit". What ever that means.[^]

Just a noisemaker. The Mopar stage 1 kit is designed to make the "woosh" noises more often when the BOV is present. Stock surge valve is good for just about any performance level this turbo is likely to make. If you don't like the sound, then don't get it.

My car isn't anywhere near as modified as yours is PVO PT. In fact, the day I was at Lapeer - everybody was turning "magazine" times. Mazdaspeed Protege turned 15.3. Stock PT GT turned 15.2. Stock 03 SRT turned 14.1. WRX (lightly modded) turned 13.8. Stage 1 SRT w/ drag radials turned 13.25(!). I feel pretty good about my time, considering how little I have done to the car (full tank of gas, spare and seats plus my lard-ass in there). Three passes within a tenth of each other, I wasn't going to get much faster either.
