For a Low Tech possibility: I was getting some clacking/buzzing from primarily the passenger side of my 04GT. It sounded quite "close" to my interior, around the base of the windshield. It did not seem to be coming from deeper in the engine compartment. I have had valve based noises in other cars of mine (mostly 1970's vintage) and this was not like that. So if you are hearing noises like that, then this might not work for you, but............

I believe that it was the plastic cladding that is under the hood by the windshield. It's loose as heck, and vibrates like crazy, especially on the passenger side. I'm not sure it's purpose, but it appears to just cover a waste space depression just over the firewall. Maybe that's where the fan aspirates air?

I went to Pep Boys, and purchased some single sticky-sided weather stripping. I pried out some of the press fit grommets (man do those fittings stink), and ran the strip below the leading edge of that plastic cowl (along the front side toward the engine). Harder than it sounds (there are a couple of fittings on the side that I dared not pry out), but it rid me of the noises.

Hope this helps.

I just had my lifters replaced a couple of weeks ago. They would make a tapping sound when the car was cold and do it for about 5 to 7 min. till the car would warm up. You could not hear it from inside the car.(Maybe you could) Always have music on pretty loud. Now I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but happened to be outside my car while it was running. I always have music on while I wash my car and have an amp under the drivers seat that drains the battery a little so I let it run a little when I'm done washing it. That's how I discovered the tapping noise. Once I heard it, I paid close attention and realized it happend all the time, everyday, when the car was cold for the first few minutes till it warmed up it would make a tapping noise very loud. It was right from the top of the engine. So, I had to leave it with my dealer to hear because by the time I'd drive to the dealer it would be gone. So, I did and they did hear it, and decided it was the lifters, and replaced them and it has been quiet ever since.

Oh. I'm thrilled mine was the lifters and is fixed and and she's quiet and running smooth and fast. She just had the 30,000 service and the did the tune up and replaced the plugs wires and cleaned the thottle body, injector flush, Chemical decarbon, and wow what a difference. Gas mileage jumped quite a bit too. They did a fine job.

Earnhardt's on Baseline, Tempe. The tune-up was $118.95 and the Throttle Body Clean, Injector Flush, and Chemical Decarbon was 127.00. They also did a Fuel Flush for 48.95. Boy what a difference. My car is getting better gas mileage now than it ever has, I mean even when it was new!

Thats a serious chunk of change there. [:0] I might just do all that stuff myself as painful as it may be in this heat.

Yes, it was. And that's not all I had done but, we're not do it yourselfers so it was worth it especially since they did such a great job. As I said before I'm getting better gas mileage now than when it was new so I'm a happy camper. If you saw my post on General Discussions on mileage and on everything that has happened to my car they have done all the work. They have taken very good care of my car from the get go and have treated me very well as well. So I trust them with my car.
