1. I installed my pyrometer and finally had the sensor mounted after turbo. With the lights off, it works ok. With running or headlights on it twitches (the needle) I used separate sources for the gauge and light power and reworked them tonight to be sure. The grounds are ok too. Right now the light power source is the from the 12 volt plug in in the dash, so it can work with the dimmer. The main power for the gauge is a shared source with the boost gauge. The boost gauge power and light work fine. I have the boost gauge with warn and peak, so it is powered as well.
2. At WOT, I only pull about 11+ (if that lbs of boost. And then it doesn't hold it very long. Any reasons as to why, and is there a way I can correct this? I have a 5spd. (right now I have a temporary exhaust while i await the parts i need. Essentially a 2.5" main pipe going into a glass pack. No muffler or anything...so thats about as wide open as i can think. Thanks. |

Redman are you running any kind of MBC ? If not then your PCM is holding /bleeding your boost . I'm still running my $50.00 MBC off solenoid #2 . If I disconnect MBC, my turbo 5-speed would get to about 11lbs and slowly bleed down . This isn't the case with the MBC . I'm adjusted to 12-13 lbs and hold as long as I'm in the throttle . Boost starts @ about 1/3 throttle. Wish I could help with pyrometer issue but unfortunately I don't have a clue ![:I]

hmm, the gauge needle thing seems to have settled for the moment.
However, is my boost range typical of a stock GT? (10-12) Jeff, no, I don't have a MBC, i really am seriously thinking about S1 now b/c of this.

PT RedmanGT, those boost numbers are fairly common, and even higher than some. Stage 1 will solve the problem as well as the need for a boost controller. At wot today I pulled 15.5-16 lbs boost (settled@15), and the PCM no longer tries to fight the boost level to keep it down. I have boost at partial throttle that I could only get with a MBC before stage 1, and then without stage 1 the PCM would use the waste gate and the surge valve to dump boost to keep the levels low. The Stage 1 pcm does not do this and the car runs stronger and smoother thru the whole power range. I have an autostick so I got the benefit of the improved shifting which makes a world of difference as well. Holds boost thru shifts (and thus doesn't retard timing), shifts are much more firm and the rpm limit for shifts is now about 6200-6300 rpm. Having invested in a dual stage MBC from turboXs it is really no longer necessary. The $ 400.00 spent for stage 1 has satisfied me with excellent performance. I do agree however that this is the way the car SHOULD HAVE RUN FROM THE FACTORY. My $.02 [|)]

I should have, but I went thru the dealer where I bought my Cruiser. They have helped me with some of the exterior & interior mods too. They have hooked me up w/some aftermarket people that they deal with, and it has worked out well. As far as MBC operation/install & evaluation, I read the posts of all on this board, in particular Ian, Chipmunk, flashback2, and dalite. I'm sure that there are others that I'm not recalling too. Their experiences coupled with mine definitely pointed me in the right way. Dalite confirmed what the PCM was doing using technical documentation. This is easily the best forum that I have ever been involved with. Anyways, good luck and happy Boosting,[8)]

Redman I too am thinking of getting S1 but I'm waiting on S2 announced pricing etc! I won't be driving my cruiser this winter Phatdad and others convinced me to get another car . I now own a 1997 Dodge Neon coupe. That being said I'm going to set back and wait . I've spent my mod money for this year and am unfortunately modding the neon before the weather gets bad,lol ! Unfortunately the pt cruiser wasn't the only DC product without a rear sway neon base/highline models had no rear sway either....I got a highline....I'm acquiring bigger front sway,a stock rear sway and already have installed front ,rear strut bars . The car is a 5-speed and has a header, short shifter. I'll be installing new hoses/belts and picked up a small 3 gauge setup (sunpro) @ autozone. I now spend more time @neons.org than any of the cruiser forums as I'm trying to learn this auto as well as my cruiser !
