We always found that 180 stats worked best in Dakota R/Ts, but that's just me.

If the engine overheats with the thermostat at full open(180 degree) it might overheat just the same with any thermostat at full open. I have been taught by experience that excess temperature is often not centered around the thermostat function.
A cooler thermost might just add to carbon buildup by not allowing the engine temp to get to the designed in optimal temperature. Other posters have found that the stock thermostat may not be a true reading..... that might be and avenue to explore. |

I've been running the 160 degree thermostat for over 2 weeks here in south Florida and it's working fine. No error codes related to the fuel system and closed-loop operation. Performance as measured my seat-pants dynometer feels stronger. The temperature gauge in now running a full notch below its old point which was at the middle of the range. It never climbs above that point, even sitting still in traffic, and the fan(s) don't seem to run as much.
