Default Best Shifting For Acceleration???

Hi everyone,

I have a GT Stage 1 car with the AutoStick and I was just wondering what some opinions would be on shift technique for best acceleration?

Leave it in drive and just floor it? Or put it in AutoStick mode and let the PCM shift it at redline? How about manually shifing it in Autostick mode at the peak HP RPM, which I'd imagine is somewhere in the low 5000s?

Has anyone of you dragstrip guys experimented with different techniques along these lines?

If I'm messing with or getting messed with by another car at a light I just through it autostick and let it shift on its own. Seems better to me but I don't have stage 1 "YET!"...

I believe that Ian dropped his 1/4 mile time by using the AutoStick mode and letting it shift on it's own (about 6100 rpm). Using D will cause the transmission to shift earlier.

I don't know how to drive an autostick. Is it hard. I have a 5-speed and thats all I can drive.

Yes put it into stick part of auto stick and it you have a stock engine you might need build up a little rpm off the line maybe 2500 then feather it slightly till it grips then floor it! Stage 1 probably need come off line a little easier and make sure you have the traction before you light them up!!

My automatic '03 GT shifts out of 1st gear at about 52-5300 rpm, the rest all happen a 6,000 RPM, automatically. Seems to pull hard to that point. Wish I could get the 1st gear "stutter" out of it!
