ok, new to my car and these silencers, when I open the air box, the top portion of the box has a white tube , is this the silencer? and if so is it the upper silencer or the lower?

Beacon, please compare the modded stock air box to the new one for me pleasse?? Am I right in saying the modded box was nearly as good for performance and sound as the new one you have??

When I took out both silencers off, I was expecting more noise.... but it was actaully quite as with both silencers in.[:I] What I didn't expect was nice power gain and better throttle response.

You sure you got more power? Has anybody got proof they got more power? We didn't screw around with the air induction on this car - those resonators aren't measurably restrictive....

My car still has them...

I took the air box assy. off couple of days ago to have look at these 2 silencers. My first impression was that they did not look too restrictive as you said. so I put everything back together.

But today I decided to take them off to hear more turbo and air intake noise more than anything else, but instead of more noise, I got nice power gain as if I put in an aftermarket cone intake system.

IMO, those holes in the silencers maybe creating air turbulence as air goes thru. the silencer chambers.

I would agree with that statement. What I noticed was a smoother, more linear throttle response.

Here's my two cents worth, I have removed the white silencer and have noticed that seat of the pants difference.. Now for the EXPERT opion, Motor-Mike over at DIY has tested the difference and here is his comment .. http://www.ptdoityourself.net/pttechlib28.html#692 So, long story short, the white silencer DOES restrict and that means less HP..right?

Modded stock air box seemed (to me at least) to lack the sound improvement alot of folks talk about. I tried it with both upper (white) and lower (black) removed and with just the upper removed. I didn't really feel like it increased the performance. (Drove a 900 mi roundtrip with just the modded stock box).

With Airaid (and I'll assume some of the other brand) replacement intakes you definately get the sound out there. Nice grumble at idle and the ever pleasing turbo whine on acceleration.

I've only had the Airaid in for about 20 mi of drive time but my initial impression is that seems to be a increase in performance (more so on the low end). I want to say it's a big one but that may just be my ears hearing the turbo and talking my mind into it. lol.

I will say I won't be putting the factory box back in there.

I would like a better way to channel the air from the fender port though as Airaid has ya yank out the lower black tube to make room for their oval filter.

HTH.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I did notice an improvement in gas mileage with the modded stock box! Waiting to see if it holds true with the Airaid.

Glad to hear the Airaid works good! I was afraid that by using the factory plumbing maybe the performance would suffer a great deal. My K&N does NOT use the factory plumbing and works and sounds great. My modded box was not nearly as good as this unit is!
