Keeping in mind that we (Chrysler employees) don't see any of the money the company makes on performance parts - unlike other aftermarket purveyors. If it doesn't sell, we don't get to make more performance parts is all. Granted, I draw a salary for working on engines - but there isn't enough money there to commit engineers strictly for aftermarket. We all work on production cars 99+% of the time, a little is left over to try to make more options available for people who like performance. So far, we aren't making much performance part money on PT Turbos - which outsell SRTs by 10 to 1. So future development money is being sunk into SRTs. If this keeps up, it won't matter if we say "don't worry" - because there won't be anything available for you to buy....

Sorry about being off-topic...

The company isn't making much money on performance parts BECAUSE of the warranty and C.A.R.B concerns.(I don't have to tell you who owns PTs. You know we have the resources to buy.)

There IS a huge market out there. (People that worry about point 1)

Heaven knows that Dealerships would install 50% of new parts sales "on the lot" if they could. (How are "dealer installed options" selling?)

I can't imagine that at least 50% of the PT Turbo owners wouldn't have REQUESTED the optional 20 HP with the purchase!!!

It is ALWAYS too expensive to make this stuff legal for some folks.

If DCX wouldn't try so hard to close out other vendors, there would be more auto sales.

Regardless of how you feel, there will always be someone that will manifacture the kits and parts that MPP sells now.

Lastly, your concern is also my concern. A little less DCX flag waving and more action on marketing full package kits both to dealers and to customers would help, but the bigest concern is that DCX isn't selling enough PTs. We as owners have a vested interest in having our choice of transport thrive. When we see the PT being stripped by manifacturing (the single horn is not only pitiful... it is unsafe), aftermarket parts being sold without warranty (and dubious doubletalk about their effects on the O.E. warranty) it doesn't paint a very positive picture.

Worst of all, true communication on salient points is non-existant. I have yet to get a response from anyone, (and I have tried), on the future of MPP... mainstream or fringe. Warranty, or no. DEQ or no. Everything dribbles out second-hand, unverifiable leaks of info.
(Your Warranty statement on the MPP web page is very clear at this time though.)

3barboost:
I would say that PT GT owners usually have families or have to truck around more gadgets. There disposable income is probably also a little higher. The problem is that PT GT owners might also be a little more concerned with warranty issues as most PT GT owners are not going to take their car to the track. They simply bought the PT GT because it is very versatile and provides a great amount of power for such a versatile vehicle. SRT-4 owners are more likely to take their cars to the track however in my opinion. They are probably not as bothered about warranty issues if they are modifying their engine already for the track.

If Mopar would really market the products (stage 1/2 and other stuff) for the PT GT at the dealerships and possibly car magazines/web and state the warranty of vehicle is kept if installed by a D-C dealership (parts should be warrantied nonetheless), your sales would skyrocket!!!
This is the only thing holding many of us back and it is really upsetting, no matter if you can do anything about it or not.

You can't deny that it simply sucks that D-C are not warrantying their own products.

Kind regards,
LIP

I don't really belong on this thread because I have no mechanical abilities like you guys but I have to agree with Kirby & Lip on the warranty issues. I could have bought a stereo over the internet at a much cheaper price then what I paid at a local audio shop but with the install came a "warranty". If something goes wrong they fix it. I'm on my own if I would have installed it. I truely believe DC could make more money if the local dealerships did the installation and it came with a warranty that they would start to see the public buying more from them instead of the aftermarket vendors. I for one would be willing to pay more for the stage 1 install if it was warranted through the dealerships. Its not so I let this one pass on by. I want the stage 1 but I don't have the disposible income and will not take the chance. A $400 unwarranted part isn't worth risking a $24,000 car, in my eyes anyway. Call me chicken but everything I buy comes with a warranty, that includes something as stupid as food. If its bad the store replaces it.

The main thing I wanted to say after reading all of this is: if you install it, no warranty, if the dealer installs it warranty. It kinda forces you to use the dealer, spend alittle more, but, theres a warranty. This would be good for DC, but maybe deep down they know that alot of the "5 star" dealerships would screw things up and would end up losing money on their warranted parts.

I don't care if the performance part has a warrantee or not I just don't want them to void the rest of the car's warrantee and that sure seems like their threat. And I don't understand why they would take such a position. And tell us not to drive the perfrormance part of Calif roads?? Very strange!

I tried to contact MOPAR with NO SUCCESS...not even a reply(reminds me of Dell service). I know a MOPAR marketing lady was around here before but left because everyone was complaining about the warranty. The last I read was that they were looking into modifying it. I haven't seen her since...other than to talk about new MOPAR parts (I assume no warranty as well) for the SRT on the SRT-4 site.
I'm in the engineering business (electrical...i'm useless with this engine stuff to be honest but I am learning) and I don't understand what people from DC or DC dealers are saying on this board regarding the warranty issue...We simply COULD NOT stay in business with no warranty...we often have to warranty things that are not the products fault to keep business. The previous comment from 3barboost that there is not much interest in the MOPAR parts from PT users makes me firmly believe this is the reason (and lack of marketing).
Cheers,
LIP

wouldn't that suck if a less than honest dealership actually botched the install to force repairs?
My dealership couldn't do my clutch recall without screwing it up, i certainly wouldn't trust them with the fuel and computer system...
