Got a Summit Sport Compact catolog in the mail yesterday and was strolling through the pages when I read the interview with Shaun Carlson, driver of the MOPAR Pro FWD SRT4. They are running 8 second times at over 180 MPH plus (see page 43).
Shaun says they are making 900 HP at the wheels and run an aftermarket specialty gearbox and clutch. What got my attention is they are running: "THE FACTORY BLOCK, FACTORY HEAD, and FACTORY CRANK" ! And here we are all worried and asking if our engines will stay together making around 300 HP. [:I] I know MEXICANPT mentioned that MOPAR is still doing durablity testing on Stage 2. I'd say Shaun Carlson has all ready done some severe if not extreme testing himself and the numbers speak for themselves at least as far as our turbo-engine is concerned!! Bring out Stage 2 and let the fun begin[8)] Deen |

even though the block is stock, they make no mention of stock *internals*.
Around here when 'stock block' is used 99% of the time they also have upgraded internals. I have just began assuming (at the track anyway)that it's stillthe stock displacment (or 1st over), but internals have been switched out for stronger ones. Very commonly racing teams (subaru camp, Mustang/Camaro/Vette/Viper/etc... lay claim to stock blocks, but usually always admit to having changed out the internals, most commonly being con-rods and pistons. Around here anyway, a stock block, means if you start with an open deck, you still have an open deck, and still have the stock stroke/bore though the internals may have been changed. My .02 of a buck...

Actually, Shaun Carlson's car used to use the base naturally-aspirated block and crank. The crank lasted a few passes, then needed "straightening" because it wouldn't spin freely in the block. When they got factory-sponsored, they (formerly Phat Rides) got the new turbo stuff. The block is stock, the crank is stock, the head casting is stock - but then spun around so the exhaust is opposite the intake - for something like 1200 hp at the crank....

I am not concerned with teh block or internals. I have been told by a reliable source that we are only peaking 30% of the engine's capability.
Im worried about the tranny.
