None. Cool sound only.

What's the cheapest one for that cool sound? I've got the K&N drop-in right now.

No prob, I can tell you exactly what I got with the turbo, and you would likely see more than I did as I drive like a total maniac, as in very fast, all the time. Factory to K&N drop-in was +2.3 mpg on average. It was most noticeable during the summer months when I wasn't taking the kids to school. Went from 21.1 on average mpg to 23.4 mpg on average. When I modified my stock box to gut the "pinch points" and let the air flow more freely, I saw just over 1.1 mpg increase, again more noticeable during the summer months.

I never had the Typhoon in long enough to get a good reading on it. My gut says it stayed almost the same as with the drop-in, so still a minor gain. As to horsepower, I went from factory estimated 185whp to a dyno'd result of 201, so estimated 16 whp gain. Mind you, we did the before and after dyno tests on the same dyno, rolled in, cooled down, and ran 184.7 first pull, 185.1 second. Popped in the gutted intake with K&N, 201 whp on the first pull. Never went farther than that as we were running in several Predator tunes so only got the one pull as an estimate of that gain. Never ran on the dyno with the Typhoon, took three pulls on the track and it was LOUD as shit! No noticeable change in my performance with the Typhoon versus my modified factory box. Since I was changing the design on my engine for more show and the polished pipe and placement on the Typhoon no longer fit what I want, I decided to sell it.

Picture again with the typhoon installed, the after photo does best to explain why I removed it:

Here's a pic after installing my modified airbox and painting:

You can see how much neater the engine compartment is after I modified and painted it up versus the photo I showed earlier with the Typhoon, and since I've torched my clutch and can't run on the track until I can afford a replacement I've decided to enter more shows instead. Ho hum, part of the fun of the PT is fighting off that demonic mod monkey!

Here's a nice article for those who claim better mpg with a "performance intake".
Testing a 'performance' air filter for MPG - Part 1 - MetroMPG.com
Interesting reading and there is no mpg gain.

A claim of a 16 whp gain from a "performance intake"!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every dyno I've seen with the "performance intake" vs. the stock box in the PT turbo has seen a couple hp gain and a double digit torque loss. I wish a 16 whp gain was that easy. A K&N drop in filter is a good thing because you'll gain a couple hp and not lose any torque. It's in an enclosed system and not sucking hot engine air. More interesting reading.

Yeah, for the automatic PT. There is a shifting hesitation between 1st and 2nd that goes away. Still, there isn't a power gain you can feel beyond that, just quicker shifting between 1st and 2nd gears on the auto. I've also been there, done that on my '01 with auto tranny.

Isn't that one strictly for the turbo?

I bought my Typhoon K&N intake on eBay but the guy also had it listed on here in the forums... Got it for $87 after shipping costs...

Anyways, it was used, had scratches and such but overall happy with it..

Noise, when I floor it, it whines big time till I let off (from the air whistling thru the pipe)... a tap on the gas pedal gives it a "phsssst" all fast and furious sounding... Normal driving, you hear it sucking a little more air and it is a little louder...

I have no complaints on noise level, for daily driving or for getting on it...

I feel it has a little more get up and go, how much??? Not sure... I have an app on my Iphone that is a dyno test, I can't imagine it is overly accurate thought...

This is with a K&N drop in filter, Irridium plugs and new wires (with a 10" sub in the trunk and my 200 pound butt in the drivers seat).

0-30 = 3.49s
0-60 = 9.65s
I stopped at 83mph so dont know the 0-100 time yet

60ft = 3.19s (with wheel spin)
1/8mi = 11.49s @ 67mph
1/4mi = 17.44s @80mph

I don't have the same area to run it as I just moved from Washinton state to Indiana this week... but I will try and find some unused stretch of road to pull a couple runs on and see what it says numbers wise...
