Nope, MeanGreen!
soonercruiser is a na, standard tranny - significantly better pedal response with the AirRaid intake system.

Gotta love the butt dino. I think with the use of "significantly" you are stretching it a bit. It's just a filter. The paper filter isn't that bad.

Thanks for the replies, even though I posted in the wrong category.

Well, I took the plunge and bought the K&N filter that was a direct replacement for the OEM one and a set of E3 spark plugs (just over $60 incl. shipping from Summit Racing). Before I closed everything up, I drilled 7 or 8 half-inch holes in the bottom of the stock air box to help it breathe better. The air filter I replaced looked like new when I took it out. Not a speck of dirt or dust on it.

I wish I'd dyno'd before and after, because those two changes really woke up that little engine! We had 3 full-size adults in the car (around 550 lbs worth) and some luggage/gifts on a trip for Thanksgiving and were able to accelerate up the hills in Western Massachusetts, while similar hills between Boston and Nashua, NH were painful before the upgrade when there were only two of us in the car. My wife is used to driving it all by herself and had a hard time keeping it under 80 with all three of us in the car. We got great mileage, too, although I didn't do the math for exact figures.

(I'll post this to a new thread in the naturally aspirated category.)

The reason I'm selling it is it's a polished stainless finish, everything else under my hood is brushed stainless, blue or black, so I'm trading out for something else I guess. Right now I've got the modified factory airbox in... one thing is she runs like a scalded ape with that thing in. My camera was sitting on a 12" tall Gorillapod, 6 feet behind the car and the exhaust almost knocked it over...lol

If you're interested, let me know and I'll post some pics of it, it's off the car now...

One pic of it installed, and yes, the car was VERY dirty, obviously wasn't a show weekend...
I hate to break hearts but get a good look at this photo. That is not a cold air intake that is a hot air intake. Your factory air box is way better than just a filter sticking out in the engine compartment. A cold air intake has to physically have access to outside air to work. This set up should actually lower your mpg. You guys actually think that looks good? Wow i am suprised allot!

yes it will but if its 2.2 ohv i wouldn't waste the money on a cold air intake. i would just buy and high flow replacement filter like k&n. also on a side note the cheap ram air filters are not beneficial as they receive way to much heat soak. the 2.4 and the Etec motors are nice.

Stock air box gets it cold air from where the yellow stake is in the pic. Still grabbing air from under the hood. I have the K&N FIPK I bought off ebay for $65. I am also running water injection so I don't think it affects me much. Just ran a 14.016 at 101.88 with these mods(2004 PT Lite,S1,ATX,1/4 tank fuel,3 gallons of 100oct,w/i,back seats and spare out, street tires,Diablo controlling S2 wastegate).

Your open intake is grabbing a lot more hot air than the stock box. You have cold air coming from the wheelwell that is rushing in and pushing hot air away from the box, too. You are losing torque from it, too. For every 10* of added hot air you lose 1 hp. There is just no justification for using a hot air intake unless you are running a big turbo. Plain and simple.

You really think a cold air intake or stock cold air intake makes a big difference on a turbo car with an air to air intercooler. The compressed air will never get to ambient temp. I got my intake to improve flow over the stock air box. I think the air filter surface area and intake pipe may make a difference in flow. I don't have my stock box anymore so I can't compare them now but looking at the outside temp vs the ACT at 55mph I am usually within 14* of each other. Yea, sitting still the temps will start to rise but it drops pretty quick when moving. Like I said earlier I have w/i that cools my charge down better than a stock air box. If you'll check out the pics you will see a graph of a guy with a stock air box with K&N filter at 90mph and ACT at 133* vs my 90mph and ACT at 106* during some track runs.

Most definitely makes a difference. I have seen the difference on the dyno. A 2-3 hp gain and double digit losses in torque. Here's some info. ISUPAGE; Performance Intake System Basics This second article has to do with a supercharger and a hot air intake, but pretty much the same difference. http://www.kennebell.net/techinfo/ge...AirWARNING.pdf
The stock airbox system is good until around 400 hp. Everybody has to make their own choice. Your system would probably be even better if you weren't sucking in hot engine air.
