Default P1188 thoughts ,etc.

Hey all been almost 3 months and over 8,000 miles but my ole buddy p1188 reared it's annoying head again today ! I know it's nothing serious but damn as many high speed ,max boost blasts as I've had since the last occurance on June 7 @ 6370 miles I thought I had it licked. Not so today, when attempting highspeed pass on interstate the dreaded ding /check engine lite. Now @ 14,405 miles. Dalite any thoughts ? For the record have't messed with MB setting since the Watkins Glen event ......still maxing 13 psi and settling in 11,12 range . One thing is to me it seems that the failures occur when it's cooler and air is denser .

what is that code? i have alist of codes and that 1 is not listed.

Fix is as simple as battery disconnect . The damn check engine icon is bright @ nite. When this code posts it affects nothing as far as engine performance by my own seat of the pants feel and by monitoring my gauges and checking "boost" levels,fuel mixture etc. I believe dalite or coptzer in an old thread theorized a bit . Yesterday I was running around 70 in 5th and punched it and shot up to around 105 then lifted off the throttle completely. Ding ! That the type of high boost stuff I do daily..... as I stated this is first failure since 6300 miles and I'm now @ 14,400 . Two days ago I had sustained runs in the 115-120 mph range with no codes .

I believe the code is for over boost limit exceeded i get it all the time when running high boost with the factory pcm

around 13 maybe 13.5 on the spike ,then settling to around 12 as long as I'm full on the go pedal .

I am running 18 lbs of boost and only get the eng lite if I stay at mid range with 13lbs roe more than 1min. but as far as full throdle I run 21 lbs whenever a BLANK pulls up beside me. i have fooled the computer into thinking it is receiving little boost, 6 to 8 lbs.

I think you may be onto something with the air density; especially with a MBC. The PCM is still trying to maintain a predicted torque that is tied to throttle position. Cooler air will cause the PCM to call for less boost, and the MBC may be raining on it's parade.

Also, since the TIP also does double duty as a Baro sensor, the cooler air and the MBC combo may be causing it to toggle back and forth between throttle inlet pressure and barometric pressure and the PCM may set the code as a result of not being able to get a stable reading from the TIP. The 1188 is definately an error resulting from TIP sensor data, but it could also have to do with the barometric pressure side of what that sensor is reporting.

Are you making sure that you are geared low enough for the RPM to be above the 2500 RPM mark (preferrably over 3 grand) before "Standing on it"?.

Just a few thoughts; nothing firm to base them on - we are all still guessing what this engine control system is made of, until someone can get a data logger set up to give actual operational data...
