Newcruiserintown, Welcome to the forum. The topic has come up numerous times and the usual bottom line is that your better off trading in your non-turbo for a Turbo Lite or full GT. The internals of the non-turbo aren't up to the power that the full turbo can put out. There were many changes done to the top and bottom end of the engine before the turbo version hit the streets.

After saying that, I don't know what your financial situation is so if you have the $$ to beef up the block then there is turbo kits (seen them on ebay) and there are other alternatives if you have the cash. Here's link to start you off.

Agreed. Non turbo block is weak and won't handle a lot of boost. Unless you are a good, experienced mechanic I'd buy a PT turbo.

STS turbo systems... they can build you a single kit for $1999.00 then figure another $1500 for install so $3400 for a 185hp 6psi turbo pt.

or your car value: we will say $3000 + $3400 = $6400.

i'm sure you can find a GT for $6400 and build it up from there (235hp 10psi)

Can't find it now, but there is a very good design article that tells of all the differences - I remember these - connecting rods are forged, and there are "squirters" that shoot oil at the undeside of the pistons to cool them.
