I;ve funally got a good run in with the BTG CAI, sounds like my exhuast is louder now : ), would this effect the exhaust sound?
punch BTG with K&N oil on it? |

I'm curious too. Do you have pics of you intake?
Also, does yours make the "marbles in a tin can" sound? I'm holding off on buying one til I hear more good reviews. Yes, I also like the BTG parts.

You're talking about just the standard "lifetime" K&N replacement air filter that you have to clean periodically right? As long as the diameter of the opening is the same at the screw collar it should be fine. GTSteve: If memory serves I saw Punch mention he does indeed have the marbles jumping around, BoV was the prescribed cure. I would hold off on it until they have the brace piece packaged with it. Seems without the brace it's sheared clean off at the elbow and found laying in the engine compartment for some folks. |

GTSteve, The aftermarket CAIs do not make that noise, It just exposes the turbulence to your ears. Any kind of BOV will eliminate that sound. The engineers at chrysler have worked hard at not letting the noise escape the turbo inlet chamber by installing silencers in the turbo inlet tube and the airbox. The silencer down by the turbo air intake is built into the tube and silences that sound. The turbulence is still there, but you do not hear it. Any CAI that replaces the clean air tube between the air box/filter will exhibit that noise, because there is no silencer in the aftermarket tube. A BOV redirects the pressure in the intake from the throttlebody back (on change from pressure to vacum on closing of the throttlebody) by venting into the atmosphere rather than back into the turbo inlet chamber. Thus a PSHHH sound rather than the original rattling sound. All of the BTG, K&N Typhoon and filter charger replace the tube between the airbox & the piping to the turbocharger from the air box, The air raid (on revelent enterptrises) uses the bottom of the stock airbox, as well as the original clean air piping between the airbox and the turbocharger (with the silencer in tact). Without a BOV, the Air raid CAI or the other Air Raid high flow intake ( both use the original piping to the turbocharger) will not excentuate that rattle. I don't know if it silences it completely, cause I put a HKS SSBOV on my cruiser shortly after the aftermarket intake. Thats the experience that I have had, and thats My Two Cents.

Back on the subject, I felt that my exhaust sounded a little louder than before the CAI but it might just be wishful thinking on my part......

I know, lots of questions. This is how I learn. Thanks |

GTsteve, The Mopar BOV cost around 58.00. It takes the surge valve integrated into the turbocharge and converts it into a BOV by redirecting the pressure into the atmosphere rather than back into the turbocharger. It is alot less complicated an install than an aftermarket BOV and works every bit as well. The only PITA is that there is 1 bolt on the surge valve that is difficult to access beasuse it is located right up against a turbo cooler line. I have not done a kit, but have read many posts on it on this forum. I will post the 1 pic that I have of my BOV. I ordered a BOV and installation kit from exhaust depot. I cut out a section of the silicone tubing between the Intercooler outlet and the throttlebody input, and replaced that section with a metal sleeve & BOV flange. the BOV to is attached to the flange via a large Snap Ring. Then plumbed it to a vacum source. The stage 1 kit optimizes the Mopar bov by using the PCM to control the BOV from the surge valve solenoid. There are others on this forum that can speak to the actual installation of the mopar BOV better than I can. Maybe some of them will weigh in on the subject......
Heres a pic of my BOV installation.... ![]() Here is 1 link, I'm still searchin for more: http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...hTerms=MO PAR This link contains a link to the instructions (this is the one I have been looking for!) http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...erms=MOPAR+BOV |

Install was: 1) Remove the air box/cai 2) Remove the three bolts on the stock surge valve 3) Place bov and gasket in between the surge valve and turbo 4) Using the three supplied (longer) bolts, tighten it all back up. (see pic 2 for what it looks like installed, it's the blue plate you see sandwiched between the surge valve and turbo housing - orientation for the pic is looking down from the top of the engine) Install took me about an hour and a half but only because I dropped the socket down into the engine bay and had to fish for it. Only thing that would have made it easier would have been if I was able to get under the car for the poorly positioned third bolt. Pic #1: ![]() Pic #2: ![]() Ordered mine from http://www.1stchryslerparts.com/ but you can get them through any chrysler dealership afaik. Haven't looked at the other aftermarket BoVs so can't say much about 'em but I can say the Mopar version is pretty much install it and forget it - no moving parts so you don't have to worry about oiling it or anything. |

After I installed the BTG intake, my exhaust did sound louder. Not a lot, but several friends could hear the difference.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to visit my dealer this week for the first time since I bought the car. I am having a high RPM miss so I'm taking the TSB to them that involves replacing the PCM. At that time, I'll ask them about the BOV to see if they have one or what they want for one. It will be real interesting to see what they have to say. I have a feeling that my dealer is in the dark concerning performance upgrades. I can't wait to mention stage 1 to them. |
