Default SRT-4 vs PTGT (2003 models)

Ok, I searched the site and didn't find what I was looking for, so I will ask. I have read that the SRT-4 can go from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, so why is the PTGT rated at 7.2? [:I] The difference in weight is 250 lbs, so that's approx .25 seconds. If I remove the back seats and the spare tire, I am about 100lbs away from the SRT-4 weight. That being said, in theory, i should be able to run a GT from 0-60 (manual tranny) in just under 6 seconds.

So what else is different? What am I missing? the SRT-4 has 5 more HP, but not enough to make a 1 second difference.

Thanks.

I think the PTGT will do it in under 7 seconds for a 0-60 mph run.
Not sure either why there is such a large difference...
Cheers,
LIP

Because the PT has the aerodynamics of a milk truck? []
There are differences is the exhaust, intake and PCM programming between the two, in addition to weight.

I think the 7.2 second time you see was a test for the AUTO version of the GT, not the manual (obsiously, a setup not available in the SRT-4). Therefore, I am sure that you would get a sub-7 second 0-60 time for the GT 5-speed. Since the disparity between the two is very close at this point, I would think that perhaps transmission gearing or final drive ratios may be different (not sure, though). Also, I have some difficulty power shifting in my GT & the shifter is not the quickest tool for accelerating with. Maybe the SRT-4's is slicker.

Finally, with respect to aerodynamics, this will have almost ZERO affect on a 0-60 run, as there will not be significant wind resistance effect up to that speed. You will find aerodynamics to be a factor at higher speeds (say, 90-on).

Redman, I was thinking more along the lines of a phone-booth on wheels.

The exhaust is probably why the srt is rated at 5HP higher than the GT.

I am not sure about the gear ratio's or shifter for that matter, but i do know most of the SRT guys change the stock one for a STS, for the same reason we want to on the GT (long and slow).

I agree, but that alone wouldn't account for the difference in 0-60 times.

4th gear: 0.95
5th gear: 0.76
Reverse: 3.47
Final Drive: 3.53
Overall top gear: 3.20

PT GT Getrag transmission
1st gear: 3.92
2nd gear: 2.21
3rd gear: 1.46
4th gear: 1.11
5th gear: 0.88

Bit north of that. Try 600 lbs.

interesting.. but i will have to disagree, i think.. although i have seen conflicting info. The Neon is spec'd at 2600 lbs while i have seen reports of the SRT weighing approx 2900. That is where i got my number from.. is it correct, who the F knows..[xx(]
