A 3" catback will do nothing for increased performance if you don't go turboback. The stock o2 housing, downpipe and cat still clog everything up.

I did mine in steps. Cat back (3") did gain some extra power and much louder. Then when i went with 3" downpipe it was a huge difference in power and even louder. When i added the 3"o2 housing there was very little increase (if any) in both sound and power.

So in my case catback alone did help but keep in mind i allready had all hardpipes and intake changes so the motor was breathing much better than stock.

Amazing how the butt dyno works. A 3" exhaust is way too loud for me and really no benefit unless you are planning go big turbo. I guess if you like noise it's the way to go even with the stock turbo. Most people equate noise with power anyways though my srt-4 is stealthy quiet and is by you before you know it.

I know for a fact changing mine out did improve power, not just louder. I can smoke the tires at 40mph and could NOT do that with the stock exhaust. If there are breathing mods done then bigger exhaust will help. More in needs more out.

Again, the butt dyno is an amazing tool. I've seen lots of people on these forums claim more power out of plugs, wires, exhausts, decals, chrome door locks, etc, etc. Hell, I did the same thing with my '01 PT after adding an open air filter and header. I felt the '01 was a lot quicker. Imagine my surprise when I took it back to stock and the '01 had the same power as with the intake and header. Your stock bottleneck before the cat eliminated any gains with the 3" catback. Who cares now, though. Your exhaust is now opened up and you have faster turbo spool. Notice I didn't say more hp. You didn't get a hp gain, you get to your power quicker now with faster turbo spool. Enjoy your ride, but start saving for an upgraded auto tranny. The 41TE auto tranny sucks and is a weak link. Been there, seen that.
