in general a lot of people complain that K&N is overpriced...unless it is a true CAI you can get the same numbers out of less expensive alternatives. When you get any intake with the PVC hose attatchment, you MUST get a catch can, and put it in line. Our cars create an abnormal amount of blow-by, especially with raised boost. If you don't put this in, you will get substantial oil buildup in the charger and all the way through the intake tract...

Thanks, I noticed the blowby residue when I opened up my stock Airbox, it wasn't much, just an annoyance. I have my filters ready to install for the blowby reside. I'm going to put one in between the PCV and the intake manifold and one inbetween the manifold and the K&N filer hose.

ok, I've been wondering about this for a while. For those of us that are keeping the stock air box, there isn't really a reason to add a inline filter is there? The blowby just sits in the bottom of the airbox. You either have to clean/replace a add on filter or clean the stock airbox. Same thing kinda/sorta[:I]Adding a inline filter to the PCV side is a must though[?]

The flow in this line goes both directions, depending on boost or vacuum condition, so I put my filter upside down and when the flow is toward the engine it sucks the oil back into the valve cover. Try it.

I cut the line between the PCV and the manifold and inserted my filter inbetween the two with the arrow pointing toward the manifold. I also checked the vaccum and it pulls toward the manifold. I also have a filter inbetween the valve cover and the K&N filter, it's been two days and I haven't anything in it yet. To me the K&N was worth the price (considering what's invested), but it actually is about $30.00 worth of stuff. I think that I can replicate it with the black PVC pipe , miscellanous pieces and the filter. I am really happy about the engine running cooler.

Steelblue

I just received the airraid today. I will put that in sometime next week to see what if any benifits it has over the K&N. Afterwards I will try the K&N FIPK to see what it is like, I will then keep the best of the trio and sell the other two.

I just finish test the AMX1397 CAI and here is my response to AMX1397

"AMX

Your CAI is real nice. It's quieter than the K&N which is a real plus here. They both have the same characteristics e.g. improved response, drivability and dropping the overall engine temp. With botrh CAI's I can leave my hand on the engine intake manifold after I come in from a drive. I see where your CAI would have an overall advantage over the K&N as the K&N cone is closed on the end and yours is opened. If I didn't have the K&N, and the prices were close, I would buy yours. Thanks for letting me try it out.

macster"

I will post pictures and more details later.

I checked that site, Macster.
Seems they have the Typhoon in different pipe colors and finishes: red, blue, silver and polished...or is that the filter color.
Either way, my guess is that your PN has a "B" on the end of it.

Yes that is the pipe color, I ordered the blue one, which is more of an electric blue than Patriot blue though. If I were buying one now, I would hit AMX up for his. His is quieter. Another thing is that I had his prototype intake so I can't say how the fit and finish is on the final product. Between the two, if the price was close, I'd take his product. As a matter of fact I'm finding it hard to ship his intake back to him.

Thanks Macster, for your great input about the three intakes that you are testing for all of us, As a PT Cruiser owner I made the amx1397 intake,in November of 2002 because we had none at that time, Yes it is home made, but done well, I do not own a store, after making my own, some of the members of www.cruisersofsouthflorida.com our club in south Florida, wanted the intake and said why don't you sell it. so i did. I am now making a replacement for the lower (down pipe) to be used with the factory air box, no noise increse from factory box, but increse in air flow. I want to thank MCASTER for including my intake into the test, he has done us all a great service , so we can buy the best with the least expence to do so. you can see the intake at www.ptcw.truckmoxie.com/amx1397/ may have a lower price if the parts are lower from a new vender I found. will let all know asap

amx1397,
As soon as you have a pipe from the turbo to the stock box I would like one. If you have a proto I would love to try it or a phot.
