Default Electric Fan

My electric fan that is on the rad comes on very frequent. It's -6 here and after being warmed up from a good 20 min drive, i have noticed when it is idling it will come on stay on for a minute, shut off literaly for 12 seconds and repeats. That doesnt sound right to me, the guage sits right in the middle when at operating temp.

Thoughts, opinions?

Plug a obdII scanner in there and read the engine temperature.

Are you using the controls in the defrost mode? The compressor is engaged when in defrost mode just like you would have the air-conditioner on. Whenever the compressor comes on, the fan will come on also. Sounds normal to me but as tryinbe said, you can hook it up to a scanner and see it the fan is working normal.

As long as the temp gauge stays in the middle of the range, it is apparently not overcooling/undercooling, so it should be ok. Unless it takes an abnormally long time to reach normal operating temp, with the outside temp factored in, its prob working the way it was designed.
