The MOPAR BOV was not blamed for destroying the turbo, an aftermarket one was.

Maybe the BOV prevents backpressure fro slamming the impeller, but the re-circ valve usu does a good job of that. It's just a question of where u put the extra gas (atmosphere vs re-circ.)And yes, I read the whole thing, which is why I felt I could comment...are resident DC engineer has this opinion, and I tend to think that makes him qulaified to make the statement...at least with regard to the PT...
Hugs and kisses...ok, but letting it cool down after running it hard, using synthetic mobile oil, monitoring engine and turbo function go a long way to protecting your turbo.

The warranty issue was based on the claim that the aftermarket BOV caused the turbo to fail. THIS IS TOTAL BS!!! This reasoning is crap, and afterall...all those pro rally and drag teams must really hate their sponsors to try and destroy their hundreds of thousands of dollars cutom turbo setups! So they must all be total idiots. What it comes down to is that i got screwed out of my money because someone didn't want to back up their product...BOV's are beneficial to turbo longevity, they may either recirculate or vent. The reasoning behind using an aftermarket is because i have seen stock ones, such as on VW 1.8T's crap outquite quickly after boost is raised above stock and because this is accomplished with either Stage one or a MBC i felt this was a wise purchase.

I disagree! Stand alone the BOV produces maybe 1-2 HP DYNO but saves your turbo and makes cool noises. BUT with the Stage I the improvements on the DYNO are significant. Helps in holding the pressure too during shifts. I would not live without mine!

Moondoggie:

If you did dyno pulls and noticed 1-2 HP gain, that's not enough to high five everyone in the shop over. "BUT with the Stage I the improvements on the DYNO are significant. Helps in holding the pressure too during shifts." What is your source for this? I'd like to see real time pre and post transducer data on that one.

Read 3Bar's post on the topic and you'll get an education. If the initial turbo set up did not include a proper waste gate, then you'd be right, but Chrysler has taken good care of us and our ears in this department. So if you like the noise, by all means go for it. Just don't expect anything more than a neat sound out of the deal.

Hehe, In Googling for BOV info, I came across this on a Honda board:

Turbo PT-Cruiser vs. 03 accord V6 quote:

I got raped. . I was driving my moms 03 accord V6 sedan automatic at the track. He had a stage one upgrade that comes with a computer chip, injectors, BOV and I beileve he had a exhaust system.

It sounded sick though. I hung with him through to the 60' mark then he was gone. The BOV sounded so sweet, his 1st-2nd gear ratios were close too! He ran a 14.795 and I ran a 15.665.

Fun race though. IM going to go to a dealer and test drive that car or a SRT-4 sometime soon.
So, if nothing else, it's a "whoo" factor and Chrysler marketing gadget.
