Default BOV Question

I have been reading all of the information on this forum about BOV's and now the question arises:

If the aftermarket BOV conversion kit (assume the one that can be purchased through Mopar) is supposed to be better for the turbo by reducing the back-pressure under deceleration by allowing it to "blow off" (reason for the name ), why doesn't Chrysler install it as a part of the total package...especially if this piece of equipment could lengthen the lifespan of the system and does not cause any serious issues?!?!?!

Cause, if you read the debate (at least here) it seems that the BOV doesn't really offer any tremendous advantage...it's more for noisemaking. I agree with you, but I think the benefit is minimal and longevity is more a product of how you treat your turbo before and after you work it.

And the noise must have been a really big issue cause of all the silencers on the air intake side!!

Ah, if you have read it all you would understand that a BOV eliminates turbo lag. That means better performance. I noticed the difference as soon as I installed mine. As for longevity, you can stop and let it run for a few minutes every time, give your turbo hugs and kisses, send it flowers, but you can't stop the impellor from trying to go backwards every time you let off on the gas unless you install a Mopar or aftermarket BOV to vent to the atmosphere. Noisemaking is just an added benefit and not the specific nature of the beast. [?]

Doesnt the PT have something to relieve the pressure?

btw, I read about someone(here I think) that had to replace something cause of the BOV damaging it. If a BOV just releases the air out, how can it hurt anything?

The BOV is just a noise maker. This topic was discussed months ago. The stock system releases pressure without the noise and the BOV makes no power difference +/-. The turbo see no difference, either. I tried to search 3BarBoost's post on the topic but wasn't able to find it.

I disagree! Stand alone the BOV produces maybe 1-2 HP DYNO but saves your turbo and makes cool noises. BUT with the Stage I the improvements on the DYNO are significant. Helps in holding the pressure too during shifts. I would not live without mine!
