Am I right in thinking I don't need a catch can on the stock air box set up?

well it dumps the oil into the airbox, then it gets sucked into your filter, if any makes its way past it then goes into the turbo...

Words are hard to express online. You speak in ways that allow people to think that you are an expert and that it will be okay to try out some of your mods.
If you are a novice, as you say, then any advice you give should have teh added condition that it simply opinion. Saying a "turbo mechanic" (whatever they are) told you to not allow the excess gas from the crankcase to vent and that (im waaay lost on the original post) you should connect it to vaccumn lines is decieving. I keep thinking back to the cure for the POT code....removing the TIP sensor. Even a few threads later you warned that your IC piping needed to be reinforced (after running high boost), yet no additional comments were posted by other members, who may have followd your original advice. I am a novice. And I believe I act as such. If there is doubt in my mind about the truth of my statement, I will add that additional info. Im done ranting...

I am no expert, just a Pt Turbo owner that wants to learn, and help others Pt owners, so amoung us all, the Rice Bunners will say Damn I didn't know that Pt Cruiser was that fast. what I was saying is that a catch can (dead end) is no good, sorry for that misunderstanding
We all need a some type of catch can, oil getting to the turbo is a no no. The catch can could be a in line filter to stop the oil,(change or clean it often.) The system that Mean Green has is the best I have seen, the vent on the valve cover to a catch can, Then a line from the can to the manifold, Oil stays in can and the vac. keeps neg. pressure on the crank case. with more boost (stage 1 and or 2) check the oil your often. As far as the boost hose from the turbo to the intercooler, yes it touches the body of the car and should be protected.(cover it with a bigger hose). punctuation! it is hard enough to type with two fingers, give a little and U want more. 18 lbs of boost yes,I do.

Guages r being installed after first of year, exhaust temp, will be installed, with max 1400 degrees. As the air fuel, it is not fast enough, by the time it tells you what is going on it may be too late. After the pcm install I feel I am running lean. Have not reinstalled boost controller yet, only 100 miles on new computer.

So I'm going to install a oil catch can after seeing some in person. I guess I didn't look close enough.
Here is my (first) dumb question of the day - is the airflow from the crankcase cover (PCV valve) toward the manifold? The catch can has an arrow on it to indicate flow direction, I just want to make sure I install it in the right direction. I think the air is going from the PCV valve to the manifold but just need to be sure.

Thanks, did you leave the filter in the catch can?
I'm thinking it is not needed as we will just be throwing that oil out, is there an issue with blocking the airflow if it goes through a filter?
