Yes I left the filters in both of mine ! Kinda doubt it had mine installed for about 7,000 miles. Other than emptying every couple weeks no issues.

after doing research and talking with you people amd others , the catch can is a good thing, and as mean green has said check your oil often. if you are running S1 or high boost then you will have blow by and a catch can will prevent the oil from getting on the turbo. for all your info I thank you for I am still learning about Turbos.

I took the filter elements out after they were dark brown/black in color.
I removed and blew through the filter. Without the element there is much better airflow. Put them back without the filter elements. Ive had mine in about 10k miles. PS- I have filters on both sides of the PCV system. No more oil in the airbox. |

After I read your post I am thinking about another near the air box. The bottom of that air box was *really* dirty, oil and road grim/salt all over the place, with the K&N more could get sucked into the turbo, $25.00 the "catch can" is well worth it in my opinion. PS I notice your license plate is mounted below the front bumper, some say it restricts the air flow to the cooler, had any issues with that?

The airbox side only gets a few drops for every other time the PCV side is emptied.
Works for me. PianT the plate doesnt seem to be affecting anything. Long term it may be questionable, but I dont care. Since that picture ive made a bracket and moved it. The bottom of the plate is now level with the bottom of the front fascia. Leaves about 2 more inches above for air. IMO, my heavy foot will be more likely to damage the engine/drivetrain! |
