The PN is 57-1531

It costs about $55.00 more than the typhoon

FIPK 235.90

Typhoon 180.00

I am ordering my FIPK right now!!

Ian

BTW, I am in no way associated with K&N. I was realy waiting for this kit to come out.[?]

This is interesting, I have the K&N Typhoon on my PT now. The bennies are that it spools faster than with the stock airbox, and the normal operating temp has dropped from 180 to 175. I just received the AirRaid today. I will put that in sometime next week to see what if any benifits it has over the K&N. Then I will try the FIPK to see what it is like, I will then keep the best of the trio and sell the other two.

I think 3Bar Talked about the restriction the intake has on the turbo...
Metal and plastic... metal absorbs heat faster than plastic. If you think I am wrong, Tower Hobbies sells an IR temp scaner that measures heat by just pointing to the item to be tested for about $30.00.

After driving around, remove the filter and point the scanner to the inside of the filter housing. then do the same to the metal intake tube.. you decide. IF metal and plastic are the same conducting heat, how come there are no plastic cooling fins in amplifiers... If you don't want to buy a scanner, touch a plastic part inside the engine compartment and then touch a metal one... One will feel hot, the other one will burn you... Some people here have actualy covered their metal intake pipes with insulation.

of course the outside will feel hotter, but air passing through the pipe doesn't have enough time to heat up, i will search for a link to a study done on this...

I too removed the baffles on the air box. In fact I removed the intake plastic housing that runs to the fender well. That leaves about a 4" intake hole into the airbox which I insulated completely with a 1/8" rubber stripping. With the K&N drop in air filter, my airflow should be fairly close the the typhoons and others at a fraction of the cost.

Dunno about that one. The K&N installation gets rid of the Stock airbox and all of its restrictions. The K&N cone is pointed directly at the hole in the side fenderwell. The result, quicker spools and a cooler running temps (dropped from 180 to 175 for normal temps), Plus it looks bi****, can you tell I like it? I'm going to put the AirRaid in which will be a similar setup to what you have and see what it does. I have images of the installation which I will post the weekend.

Don't get me wrong.
I was sold with the Airaid System but without the turbo-up pipe... I was still on the fence.
I would buy the airaid in a sec if it also replaced the third and last silencer.
For now, I am still interested in the FIPK.

That looks just like my K&N "Aircharger" system. I guess they call it that until they get a CARB certification. Then they call it a FIPK?

Turbo inlet is fixed size. You could attach a barn door to the inlet, but it's still diameter.

Redman

But, it's relative. E.g. You could have x amount of air going down a 3" pipe to a 2.75" opening or you could have 2X amount of air going down the same opening. Isn't the idea is to get as much air as possible down to the turbo?
