That's terrible. This topic has been discussed in depth here. Do a search and see what you come up with. If you can't find it, post here and I'll get it for you. BTW, how many miles are on the car? FYI, with a Stage1 and my heavy foot I'm getting 19-20 around town using 91 octane fuel.

I am with Macster, heavy foot, high speed blasts(100 plus) on some of our PA highways, and I still get 20mpg consistent. Stage 1 installed. You really have a issue if that is your MPG. I have 3500 on mine so it may or may not improve for me, the way I drive it should be broke in and loose by now.

Which TSB? The 18-029-03 is only for misfire, no mention of fuel mileage? Is it a flash and if so what is the TSB #?
What about stage I PCMs? How are all the SI pcms, built before any program updates, going to be flashed with the current program updates? What about the overheating issue with the early PCMs including the SIs? I have a SI P/N 1-P4510056AD built 08/20/03. I talked to a Mr. Perry and he said he is not positive that this particular PCM has the correct program, borderline, and "thinks" it will be ok. Not to reassuring. The last thing I want to do is install a problem. I feel MP should recall all early Stage I PCMs and reflash them.

Let me add that Mr. Perry was extremely courteous and could only inform me of what he knew at the time, Thank you Mr. Perry!

I am not aware of any updates for S1 at all. There is an 03 version and an 04 version and that is it. SRTs don't even have that distiction. Are you saying you haven't installed your S1 yet?

No I have not installed it as I have been waiting to get the High RPM misfire repaired (not to mention poor fuel economy) first and after several dealers I finally had the 18-029-03 TSB performed. Now I can proceed, maybe.
The updates I am referring too would be to stock PCMs. There could be several years where update flashes are available and these would also need to be performed on the stage I pcms. As you know the PCM controls a lot more than just the stage I requirements. The factory usually bandaids certain problems that arise by changing certain parameters and monitors in the PCM, slow the O2 switching down/up etc. How are the Stage I PCMs going to be updated? Geez, I have asked this a dozen times with no answer. Are we going to be stuck with check engine lights and drivability complaints with no solution because the stage kit pcms have no updates available that would normally be available for a stock PCM?

The Stage 1 kit actually will improve mileage and can't be compared to stock. If you have a stock or lightly modified PT GT, 14-16 MPG IN TOWN isn't unreasonable or out of the question, especially if you have a heavy foot and "play" a lot. Ours gets only 20-22 on the road, but we drive it around 75-80 most of the time and that's around 3,000 RPM, and down here the A/C is usually on. We are able to get good 93 octane whenever we want. So you're not out of line there. Ease up on the accellerator a little and it'll get better, but not much!

Wagonmaster, mine is about the same, I may get 200 miles to the tank full if I remember to let off, AC on all the time, and foot to the floor most of the time.

If the dealers had access to flash stations, you might be able to update the calibration of a Stage 1 car. However, most cal updates are due to some f*-up due to the huge proliferation of different markets the car is sold in, usually wrong cal in wrong car. Staged kits don't have that problem - they're USA only, premium-fuel only.

Haven't heard of any software-related issues with Stage 1 (other than VIN - but car won't run, so it's pretty obvious), don't expect to. Usually all the f-ups are found in the first model year of the car, which is one of the reasons the staged kits weren't available immediately - all the updates are in there already.
