Default Check engine light: Amber Light: power loss

'06 convertible pt cruiser 2-door turbo 2.4l engine. 40,000 miles.

Engine light (amber) (solid) has appeared on total of 4 diff occasions and stays lit till a day goes by then happens again the next time i come home from work. (Light has NOT blinked on,off ever. Only stays on solid).
Used a fuel additive before refueling yesterday (after 3rd occasion).
Light came on again tonight--(drove home from work at the speed limit.)

Car performance: Coming home at 9 pm or 10 pm 3 days a week. I run the car for about 5 miles: Car has intermittent power issues when the light appears. feels like it's going to stop when power is given to gas foot peddle.
Live in Pa.Temperatures have been at high 80's and low 70's last week and this week.
Issue does not happen in the morning and I'm using the same stretch of highway to go to and from downtown Harrrisburg (route 581).

Been reading some of the forum questions and answers.
- makes sure the gas cap was on correctly. (not possible due to the click, click, click to close it)
- Tried the on,off on,off on,off of the ignition key and did not reveal any codes. (perhaps not performing test correctly).

Car passed the emissions test on or about the middle of May
and inspection test by the end of May by the Chrysler dealer after having the front right motor mount replaced and put 2 tires on it. ( my son replaced the motor mount ... (formerly a certified service technician for Mercedes))
(he lives 40 miles from me ... due to scheduling problems, 4th of July holiday, can't get car to him.

Asking what checks or tests or what to look for?

Thanking all in advance :-).

You have to do: On, Off, On, Off, then On and keep it on and read the codes until it says "done"
