Default Map Sensor.

Ok this has me kinda worried, I took my hood off for repairs. (it had the famous
dent from the hood prop) And when I took it off, naturally there is more light on the engine. And I noticed the map sensor was melted. Now my cruiser has been throwing codes here and there. Cel would come on then go off after a while. But what would cause this to melt?! I can post pics if you dont believe me. lol.

The same thing that causes the plastic overflow bottle on the firewall to melt.

It's your Turbo. Did you ever lift the hood at night after driving around town for awhile. Things are glowing RED HOT. Why doesn't everything plastic under the hood melt, maybe someone else can answer that.

Now, after saying that, it's possible the Map Sensor had a short in the wires and it melted that way.

Are all of your heat shields in place? I have a 2005 Turbo w/ 102k. I idle in traffic a lot and nothing has melted.

Its not my turbo , I know it gets hot under there. But my coolant box
isn't melted never has been. But where you plug the map sensor in, like a 1/4" below that area on top its melted pretty good. Ive got a replacement ordered but I just was wondering what would make this do it, didnt know if this has happened to anyone or if this was just a defect.

It can't melt!!!!!

MAP is one of the basics for engine to operate- Except for crank all the others are 'nice to have' category.
There's a small base voltage in it, but not enough to cause heat you're talking about, AND if there was that severe a short engine wouldn't run!!!

Could you post a pic? Assume turbo's have a metal manifold?????

I sure will first thing in the morning. I looked at autozones website today, (just to see a pic of it.) And on the top of it, where it should be flat, black, and plastic with writing on it, mine is melted away and you can see the flat metal prongs inside it. Im glad I caught this now....But I will post a pic first thing in the morn.

IMO, that looks like an electical melt down. I didn't keep my old one, you may need a few before you find the actual cause. I replaced mine because of a minor starting issue in the AM. The new one didn't help.

I would trace all the wiring to it.... Something is grounding out....

Looks like impact; it's cracked off even, not melted.
