I have to agree with EJIII on this one, see link below for another independant test. But, as with many modificatins we make to our cars you weight the options and decide if it's right for you. More air = more power & more dirt or less air = less power & less dirt.

EJIII, I have had K&N filters in every vehicle
(that they offer an application for)that I have owned. If you change your oil and do regular maintaince when it is due-they will out last
the stock filter "MANY" times over. If you
want to find fault-no one is perfect. I'm sorry
if you had bad luck. But I will keep using them
and standing by them.

I have K&N also, and will continue to use K&N, but EJIII is correct in his statement that it does let more dirt enter the system.

That study at Bob's really didn't seem to indicate the the paper filter was substantially superior to a K&N IMHO.

Hey Skeeter, you're one of my customers! What's up with Advance ditching Hella and getting all of that APC garbage in there?

"Substantially superior", not sure it said that either, but superior yes.

From 'Bob is the oil guy' site:

Filtration test:
A color comparison is used to determine real world filtration ability. Each test filter was used in the same car, on the same roads for 500 miles. The darker deposits indicate poorer filtration, and lighter ones better filtration. That said, both the cotton gauze type (K&N) and foam filters (Amsoil & Jackson Racing) showed the same levels of filtration. Both performed poorly compared to the fiberous or paper filters (Napa, Baldwin, and Mazda).

In the end, paper or fiberous filters do remove more particles from the air before they enter your engine. The cotton gauze filters indeed offer better airflow. You have to decide for yourself whether you value ever last ounce of power or filtration.

I work for Hella, here in Peachtree City, GA.

I still prefer Advance over Autozone by a *very* wide margin. Advance hires people that generally know what the hell they're talking about, while Autozone must go and pick people up at the bus stop and give them a uniform.

I'm with you 100% on that one. I've only had bad experiences at Autozone, try to avoid going there.
