For a cuple of days now every time I launch hard in 1st gear with or without traction control the Brake light on the dash lights up momentarily and sometimes even the bell rings.
What could be causing this? At first I thought that the traction control was causing it since it uses the brakes to limit wheelspin, but the I turned it off and it still happens. Any input? |

I'll check the fluid level, thanks.

I always drive my car with the trac off and I have had the same occurence of the (parking) brake light under the tach coming on in 1st and 2nd gear, usually between 1000-3000 RPM. If its the brake fluid then its probably time for new brake pads instead of adding more fluid.

I posted about this same issue the other day, and got a great response from Cal Cruzer:
Your brakes are wearing and more fluid is now in the hydraulic system lowering the level in the reservoir. When you accelerate the fluid level drops enough to activate the sensor. Although the light comes on when you activate the emergency brake, it is also w low fluid light. You can add some more fluid to the reaservoir and it will stop or you can do brakes and it will stop. Your brakes probably have more wear remaining on them but if you add fluid be sure to take it back out before you compress the caliper pistons (or brake cylinder pistons depending on your model) when you do brakes or it will back up out of the top of the reservoir and make a mess. good luck
