Default TRAC Retard Timing ??

Maybe this has been covered, BUT! On late model SS Impala'z (the Corvette powered ones) when TRAC is on and senses that it needs to do its thing, it does two things. Sends pulses to the brakes and retards the timing. Does anyone know if this is the same for the PT'z??

I know that the brake is pulsed to the wheel that is spinning but I have never read, nor do I have any reason to believe that any changes are made to the engine (such as retarding timing).

Michael's right. The traction control is via brakes alone.

My traction control doesn't seem to do a very good job. It works ok on dry pavement when the tires break loose, but it seems pretty worthless in the snow and wet.. anybody else notice this?

Mine is useless in wet conditions as well, it does nothing to stop the wheels from spinning like crazy.

Believe it or not, you DO have to modulate the throttle somewhat. Without intervention from the throttle, no traction control can overcome you sticking your foot through the firewall. This goes for dry pavement as well. My best ETs are with the traction control off.

I find that I can climb my icy driveway just fine with the traction control on. With it off, the passenger side tire just spins and spins and I go nowhere.

The traction control on the older intrepids (the last dodge/chrysler product i drove in the snow) seemed to be miles better though.. and the ABS on my other cars all seemed better as well.. I didn't buy the PT for these sorts of "comforts" (otherwise I wouldn't have traded a Jag in on it), heck it was all frosting on the cake for me, but it does bug me a bit that it seems sub-par.

traction control will pull the wheel speed down to 15 mph if it starts spinning below 35mph. i had a class on the abs/traction control system, in the class we had a car in the air it will bring the tires to 15 mph even with the gas to the floor front tires in the air.

hehehe, 3Bar. But we want the computer to do everything for us. We just wanna point (wheel) and click (floor).

The gas pedal has two settings: on and off.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the primary purpose of the trac control seems to be keeping the wheels pointed in the intended direction. That seems to be the case for me...more like a "loss of traction control" in that it keeps you from steering all over the place during spinouts.
