Just curious, maybe I am flaunting my lack of automotive knowledge...
The hose that connects the intercooler to the throttle body, could you divert some of that cool air charge and run it into the airbox to help cool some of the air running through there? |

You could, but the boost would be lost.

Totally.
Here is the path: Airbox ---> Turbo (boosts air pressure, temp rises) ---> Intercooler (temp drop) --> Throttle Body (give me fuel / give me fire / give me that which I desire) --> Intake manifold --> Cylinder (kaboom) I am thinking a heat shield between the head cover and the intake manifold may help. Anyone with thermometers wanna test that? |

It wouldnt do a lick of good...
This is why a "cold" air intake isnt very helpful on a GT. Successful cold air intakes are just that because they incorporate some form of "ram air." When air flows from your box it goes into the the turbine, which is extremely hot. The intercooler's job is to cool this air as much as possible before it reaches the cylinders. Now Im not saying 60 degree air isnt better than 80 degree air, but Id rather have that cold air going into the engine than the turbo.

That's what I figured.
Thanks.

So, what do you think in general?
Is it better to have a "CAI" or not? I have the BTG one and I like the way it looks, I'm not crazy about the sounds and I'm not sure about the performance benefits. I'd hate to send it to the closet, but if I have to I have to.

unless your using a functional ram air intake, there's really no point in having a cai in our gt's. You might gain 3 hp from a cai on the gt's

This test was made with the 3" brand X down pipe #1 if you use a larger pipe to your turbo your turbo does not have to work as hard.
#2 if the air is cooler intering your turbo, then it will be cooler leaving the turbo. then your inter cooler will be cooler. just made some temp. test not complete but will share what i have. at 45mph intake air in the hole at the fenderwell 82* on the intake pipe just behind the filter 97* on the top of the turbo 251* on the intake manifold 109* stoped open the hood engine running and read again. the fenderwell 104* pipe behind the filter 115* top of turbo 277* on the intake manifold 137* will make some more test and with the factory air box and factory down hose.

If you want to really improve the cooling effectiveness of the charged air, I would get a much larger front mount intercooer, and a different body kit, which would allow more air to enter the cooler. The stock one is pretty large, but the opening isn't designed for optiomal cooling, rather a blend of styling and usefullness. Also A water sprayer kit, Like the Mitsubishi Lancer evo has, which would help to disipate the heat in the intercooler would be much more effective. Cooling the air before it enters the turbo has zero usefullness, cause it is going to just get hot when it is compressed.
A heat shield to keep the plumbing from the intercooler to the manifold, and the manifold itself cooler, would be of some usefullness. Don't forget that the stock computer, is going to take into acount alot more than just charged air temp when calculating boost, injector pulsewidth, and timing advance.
