I have a chance to buy a complete set (all 4) DRILLED AND SLOTTED rotors for the GT Turbo Cruiser, they can be used with the stock cali
Has anyone done this ? Does it inprove the brakes. and is it worth 190.00 for all 4? |

If you are road racing where you are on your brakes a lot it will help and in real panic stops it may help some, anywhere it really generates a lot of heat. They also look cool. If I were going to do it I would lean more towards a slotted rotor then a fully drilled. They accomplish the same missiong (venting gasses that build up between the rotor and pad) but you do not sacrifice the full integrity of the rotor. Full race cars generate incredible temps that drilling helps cool, but then on a race car they will probably change out the rotors quite often. There is also the matter of reducing unsprung weight on race cars. Every little bit helps in the handling dept which isn't that big of an issue in a street car
In everyday use you probably won't notice a whole lot. IMHO you will FEEL a bigger difference from an upgraded brake pad. Unfortunately I have no first hand experience with what to uses as an upgraded pad for the PT. But they do look cool! (edit) Okay sorry for the lecture. I just re-read your question and the answer answers are "no", "maybe" and "not to me". I just realized who posted this and I think that you are a mechanic aren't you? Probably don't need a lecture on brake theory.[:I][^]

Stay away from Drilled rotors, I had a set on my car and they cracked between the holes after 8 months, w/o ever seeing the track.

It's my understanding, changing the brake lines from rubber to braided will also provide a noticably difference in braking performance

Amx,
Hey I will take them if you dont want them! Even if you do want them I want some too!!!!!!!!!! I had them on my Toyota and they are great! The secret is the break in as you CAN not heat them up in the first so many miles. Never saw them crack. The knock on slots is that every time you engage the pads they get cut by the slots. So opnions............ Braided brake lines are night and day. I have them on my Sportster. I am sure you now the exspansion is less. Finally I would find ceramics or EBC's pads to put on with those new rotors. I thought 3Bar said we have the same rotors, well I think he said pads, as a SRT-4. That is what I was going to try and find.

amx,
Thanks I saw your post with his email, and emailed him. I want to know what brand they are from him. I do wonder if the SRT-4 rotors are OUR rotors also. Hell if the pads fit.......... I mean there are choices in rotors for the SRT-4. I am in no hurry to not get the best that I can afford. I agree with you, I have always upgraded either rotors, pads, or both on any car I have had to improve stock brakes.
