Two people kinda answered the question. I know about high compression engines. If you don't use 91 or higher you can detonate and blow the engine up... usually around 11:1. I know we dont have nearly that high compresion but we do have turbo and the computer analizes the grade gas you put in. If you dont put 91 octain in then the boost is retarded back so you run safe.. so not putting the recomended 91 octain in does affect your performance..
