Default DOING ANOTHER TURBO

I originally bought a used turbo for the project. Advertized as no play 10 K miles. But it had side play. So I rebuilt the original one that's in the sticky above. To see what I needed to do about this one. Turns out side play is normal to a point. A small difference in these two. So I decided to clean and inspect this one just in case. Well this one had been rebuilt. By who I don't know. The housing is very clean far as the coking goes. But the rebuilder was a bull in a china shop. I almost think it's a pro because of the clean housing. These aren't easy to clean. But the pics will explain the rest. As in the other thread, I did not make any of these marks. Or leave the silicone or rubbery strip inside one part of the inner turbo. Just thought you needed to see this. Inspect any of the rebuilt units you receive, for this kind of tool marks. There shouldn't be any.

The stuff inside should not be here. I don't think it got there on it's own.

Gouges from improper snap ring removal.

And really no wrench! Except for the debris this will not hurt the turbo but really, if you can't do better you should leave it to someone who will. And yes this could have been a pro shop. Would have to ask the previous owner.

Thumbs down Re: DOING ANOTHER TURBO

Probably a result of high production quotas at refurb/reman plant, and shoddy Q/C.....

That's so right Jerry!

This is only a small fraction of the work Jerry can do. For those new and haven't read any of the archives. Jerry can take care of any need one might have or think of.

Nice display of just some of your work. Just how many countries have you sent these too?

Folks you need to get you some of these.

Got everything clean and decided no significant ware to justify another kit.

I used this to set it up this time instead of oil. More insurance and this will be setting until needed.

I can't stress enough that these oil passages have to be open and clean. 8) Other wise you are wasting your time.

Also make sure these keepers are in place. If not the kit should have two snap rings to replace them. These are what keeps the bearing in there proper place.

lol This is so easy. The big snap rings and cleaning are the only pain once it's off.

Lube the bearings and put them in the housing.

Install the oil ring on the shaft.

Lube the shaft and slip the shield on and slide into the housing. Until fully seated.

Thank's, means a lot coming from the clean and planned out to the nines guy. It's like gett'n an A from the toughest professor at school..

I wonder what you have planed for this one!!

After installing the impeller shaft into the housing. Stand it up and install the thrust washer bushing onto the shaft followed by the the thrust washer . placing the oil chamfer face down. All with plenty of lube.

Now it's time for the o ring and the Shaft oil ring housing.

Line the oil deflector tap up with the slot in the thrust washer.
