You need to do a key dance to pull the codes
this will give you an area to check
1. Cycle the ignition key On - Off - On - Off - On- within 5 seconds.
(KEY POSITION TO ON NOT TURNING CAR OVER)
2. The odometer will show the P-code for the corresponding Diagnostic Trouble Code number.

This will help if you have the engine lite on.

If your engine light is on I don't recommend you do the key dance. I recommend you get an OBDII Scan Tool to reset the diagnostic trouble codes. I got mine at Harbor Freight.

Search results for: 'OBDII scan tool'

Most likely it's the camshaft sensor, but you should pull the code to make sure.

New ignition wires and spark plugs (Gapped at 0.040) certainly couldn't hurt....

Key dance will be better than nothing. You can hurt anything by trying. But you don't always get everything. That way. If you show nothing the you might get it read at the auto parts store.

I agree that totally sounds like camshaft sensor - key dance it! (If check engine light is not showing, its possible your C.E.L. might be burnt out...)

Also a quick check might be to disconnect the battery for ten seconds ( If it's an intermittent camshaft sensor fault like mine was, the problem will disappear for a day or two... )
