Mike / Gary, how do you like the deflector? Is it worth it for the PT? I have one on my V8, 4X4 Explorer and it doesn't seem to deflect much wind, but I got 20MPG going to Big Bear and back! My 04 GT has 3K miles now and the mileage just gets worse! I'm down to 15.3 on a daily commute on the 405. I need a road trip or less wot. I'm also heading down to Adam's Sat. morning for a "stainless repiping". I'll let you know how that improves things. [8)]

Although I've only had the WIND DEFLECTOR on my car for a few days now, I like it. There is no more noise in the cabin when you are driving with the sunroof open--especially at highway speeds. However, never thought I might get better gas mileage after it was installed but I'LL TAKE IT! [8D]

Ok we admit it! just before you left Mossyrock we let all the air out your tires and replaced it with helium. That combined with a fresh sealant job and the new deflector.... well that's a combo that can't be beat.

Plus when you get that close to the center of the universe (Redmond) it kind of changes the laws of physics a bit.

we'll see how your mileage lasts once you go S1. The effiency of the car won't change, but the drivers right foot might seem a little heavier

And with all of the speculation, the elevation could have something to do with it. Remember as one gets higher in elevation the density of air is reduced. Thus the resistance to get through the air is reduced. Thus better gas mileage.

Oh, wait a minute...

Reduced air, less oxygen to the engine. Less gas mileage! That theory doesn't hold.

Okay maybe it is turbomangt's paint sealant. Reduced wind resistance as a result of less drag on the body. And then add the wind deflector. Now there could be something there.

But really, I am glad that someone is getting some descent gas mileage. As soon as you find out what it is share with us. "The truth is out there!"

On a trip we consistantly get 26.5 mpg. On one tank of gas my wife got 29 mpg, however neither of us have duplicated this, but 30+ that is amazing.

Doesn't fuel mileage improve the closer you get to the speed of light? Or does it just seem that way to you and everyone else experiences fuel mileage as it acutally is. Can't remember my physics right now.

Ok, two questions: Did you zero out your trip odometer before each fillup? Did you compare your trip odo reading to your total odometer to check for accuracy. I'm playing devil's advocate, but I got 25 mpg once when I drove 50 miles before remembering to reset my Trip Odo. If yes, you gotta let us in on the secret! My wallet's hurting from these gas prices!

Yes at higher altitudes, the air density will be lower, which means less oxygen. However this also means less fuel. The PCM will determine the air-mass ingested into the engine, and adjust fuel accordingly.
This of course assumes that one is cruising at partial throttle. Our turbo's can increase that air density quite well.

Think about how an EGR valve works to dilute the mixture in inert gas.

Did you have it set at kilometers instead of miles?

I don't know if we can even do that in our car, but I knew someone who thought they were getting 40 miles to the gallon in their SUV until they realized that they had their trip odometer in kilometers...
