I didn't zero out the trip odometer because it was being used to keep track of the total trip miles. Everything was documented in a gas mileage book carried in my car. I've been keeping track of the mileage since I got the car last September--some 7236 miles ago. I do mileage checks using an electronic calculator (batteries in good shape), and, where something seems a little high, or low, it is checked and checked again--as was done here. My regular odometer is set for miles only--not kilometers--so this is not a problem.

Based on all the information presented in this thread it appears that the exceptional gas mileage recorded on my recent road trip comes down to one of the following two factors:

1) My new custom wind deflector is fantastic; or,

2) I'm sure one GREAT DRIVER!!! [^]

Think it must be the latter. [8D] [|)] But, if you believe the wind deflector made the real difference, then, you can purchase one from:

http://www.pt2xtreme.com/

Roy and Sharon are the owners of the company and have three PT Cruisers--one being a GT. Just tell Roy you want the same type of wind deflector he installed on my car--THE ONE THAT MAKES YOUR GT GET OVER 30MPG!!! [?]

Gary,

You are a hoot, like the way you post, great looking GT.
I believe what you got, some time these things run great,
lots of power, great gas milage and all. Then a again they
will run like ----. For the life of me I have not been able
to reason this out.

well Tattoo, who else has joined us on Fantasy Island?
well, Gary, good on ya. when applying aerodynamic devices to a brick, mileage is bound to get better. with the sunroof open, it would cause more aerodynamic drag. comvertibles have better accelerating times when the top is up. the aerodynamic drag caused the open interior does affect acceleration and in turn, mpg. replacing the restrictive oem intake can also help to improve mileage. as i used to say to the Russians in our office, "in America, anything is possible"
gary, u are enjoying the heck out of your seamist jewel

"Mike / Gary, how do you like the deflector? Is it worth it for the PT? I have one on my V8, 4X4 Explorer and it doesn't seem to deflect much wind, but I got 20MPG going to Big Bear and back! My 04 GT has 3K miles now and the mileage just gets worse! I'm down to 15.3 on a daily commute on the 405. I need a road trip or less wot. I'm also heading down to Adam's Sat. morning for a "stainless repiping". I'll let you know how that improves things."

Don't despair....my '04 GT didn't get advertised mileage until about 3500-4000k miles into it. Now I am between 24-28 on the hwy. I'm sure things are about to change for you.

I am thinking about the Stage 1, but I can wait until the Seamist Green Cruisin' machine has a full report.

Mike / Gary, how do you like the deflector? Is it worth it for the PT?
OK, back in town now so I can post again!

For me at least the wind deflector on the PT is almost essential. I have my moonroof open almost all the time and the one on the PT just howled! I first put one of these deflectors on a 3Series BMW and loved it. I was going to put one on a 2000 Dodge Stratus but, well, it didn't seem to need it. Musta been some fine aero work done on that car! On the PT in stock configuration I just couldn't deal with the noise and buffeting. I think it has to do with the roof angle; look at a PT from the front and you can see how the roof is angle upward toward the rear and you can see the whole glass panel. Open that thing up and it almost looks like a big scoop. Yeah, there's the whole idea of laminar airflow, blah blah blah, but with the deflector on things are nice and quiet. Picked mine up on eBay real cheap too.
