Perhaps with the lower octane fuel, the pcm picked up some knock and limited the boost and or timing, yielding the lower numbers?

You will need a OBDII Scan Tool to reset the engine trouble codes. The codes are still stored when you disconnect the battery cables.

Harbor Freight has OBDII Scan Tools for a reasonable price.

Search results for: 'Scan tools'

The PT Cruiser PCM can not do that far a self adjustment compensation to the degree of information in the first response. but it is a good thought.

If it was pinging it should be pulling boost.
