Default Exhaust recommendations

So I've been pretty happy with the stage 1 ecu on my 2005 convertible. However I'd like to do a few more upgrades.

Any recommendations on exhaust? Nothing too crazy. My friend with an Srt-4 Neon has a few ideas. I figured I'd ask around on here as well.

That depends a lot on what your end goal is... Strictly performance? Loud and deep? Slightly improved sound? Looks cool with fancy duals out back? You'll likely get lots of suggestions here once you share what you're looking to do. There are a lot of misconceptions about exhaust especially when it comes to turbo cars. The majority of aftermarket stuff is all 3", which is fine if you want a deeper tone. But if you are looking for the best potential performance, you have to dig a little deeper than the usual go-to stuff. On a tip from NitroPT, I started doing some research into what is actually going on in your exhaust system with turbo cars, and it was quite educational. I put together a system that should achieve the best performance for what my personal goal is, but your goals may vary. Tell us a little more about what you want to achieve.

Sorry it took so long to reply.

I'm looking for performance and a decent sound that isn't to ricer sounding. I did a muffler delete to the factory exhaust. that doesn't sound too bad.

I have a Bassani "dual" exhaust on mine. It's loud. (Came with the car when I bought it.) Too loud in fact. I am working on quieting it down a little.

It is split at the "muffler". It's 2.25" from the cat back to the muffler. 2.00" to the right side exhaust.

Performance starts at the O2 housing. The factory piece leaves a lot to be desired, and if you don't change that, anything you do behind it suffers. Next of course is the downpipe, and you will have to consider if you need to run a cat or not, and there are numerous options either way. The other issue is that the aftermarket rear exit systems face the same problem the factory system does... lots of bends!

A good O2 housing, downpipe and higher flow cat and rear exit system are common, and are a good improvement. There are more aggressive options as well. If you're not planning on lots of mods, aggressive might not suit your needs.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. A little off the exhaust topic. Im changing plugs and wires. I already plan to get msd wires. Any certain plugs that may work better with the stage 1?

If noise and or sound is what you want then I suggest to start talking to local PT Cruisers in your area that you like the sound and see what they are running.
If Performance is what you are looking for hen you need to carefully consider what your end goal is and what you will be operating the engine speeds at.

Sales ads pertaining to exhaust system are generally very Hyped up to aide in sales.

I agree with what has been mentioned in this thread. There is some power to be released over the stock system, but it's not huge. Unless you want to have a max effort car with all the trade-offs to be performance oriented, then I would try for a middle of the road system where you free up some power but still have a pleasing tone. You are actually getting pretty good power out of your stock muffler delete system. Bang for the buck, you are way ahead. Anything you do now is going to cost you for little gain; in my opinion.

On one of my DC2 I have a 3 inch system from the manifold back with a magnaflow muffler installed by the previous owner. It is actually way too loud for me so I don't enjoy it much. It would have likely made more power as a 2.5 inch system and been easier on the ears too.

I have a junkyard score of a 2.5 inch Mopar performance/Borla dual outlet system that may decrease the performance slightly over my 3inch system, but I think it will have a mellower sound. I likely will also install a resonator midstream to quiet it down a bit if it is still too loud for my taste. I will install that on the other DC 2. I may install a resonator on the 3inch system too for the same reason.

Anyway as the others have said, It totally depends on your goals and taste. At this stage in my life, the stock gt system is probably perfect for me. Lol

Pt 3 has a flowmaster
I don't care for it .....it is loud and resonates inside while driving..
The tone of the Pt Gt stock muffler is nice...
