Default Stock 04 GT vs Touring GT w/Stage 1

I am going back to buy a 04GT tonight and wanted to check out some online forums. Unfortunatley this forum is scaring me out of a GT and maybe into a Touring turbo with the Stage 1. Can someone tell me the differences. I most likely would not do that much moding other than the Stage 1. Am I foulish to spend more on the GT? Is the Turbo covered on the GT under the 7/75 warranty? Someone please help fast.
I have about 3 hrs before I leave work to go make my purchase.
Thanks
Justin

The dealer might give you trouble with the Stage 1 kit.

If you want the warranty get the GT.

IMHO, you are not foolish spending the additional money for the GT because you get a beefed-up suspension, traction-control, Autostick instead of regular auto, 17-inch wheels, and disc-brakes all around. Although these additonal features are not "must haves" they go well with a high-performance car.

Why rush into a purchase and take the chance of not being happy? [:I] Instead of 3 hours, why not take 3 weeks before making your decision? Just my two cents. Good luck.

I know that some of the differences are that the GT has the autostick or 5 spd. I think that the GT has better brakes.

But how does the performace compare? Stock Gt vs Touring GT with Stage 1? Is the GT worth the extra money? I just want it to be quick. I am trading in my performance sport car for a family car but I don't want to lose the power.
Thanks
Justin

You must remember the PT Cruiser (with or without S1) is NOT a sports car, but, it is a sporty car. I think the GT is worth the extra money for the reasons cited earlier, however, your mileage may vary. In all honesty, as much as I like my 250hp modified GT Stage 1 turbo car, my stock GT (220hp) had all the power I really needed. Remember..."If you gotta play then you gotta pay!" If saving some money is a factor in your decision then why don't you consider buying a preowned GT as there are some good buys out there if you take the time to look around? Just my two cents again. The GT with the bigger brakes, better suspension and all the other items mentioned above is really the way to go. By the time you add in all the extras, your Limited turbo will prolly cost the same or more.

Mike

I have to agree with Gary and Mike. I looked at the Mini and VW turbos and I liked the Cruiser GT better. You can get the same power with the turbo lite and stage1, but your missing the other things that make the GT total package with full warrenty. Good luck. You'll probably get to the dealer and buy the color you want anyway! Good Crzin.[8)]

I bought my 03 GT last year and have never regretted it. Look inside your heart for what you really want. If it were me I'd go for the GT. But then I already did. The touring/W turbo light can be upgraded to stage 1 and you will have as much HP as the GT and the same trans as the GT (without Autostick). If money is critical (its always important) the turbo lite and stage 1 is the way to go. I liked the 4 wheel disc brakes with the larger front calipers/rotors. You have to ask yourself if you're looking to mod the suspension and or brakes down the road. If so, the turbo lite is the way to go, you'll end up replacing most of the suspension components that make up the difference between the GT and the Touring/Turbo anyway.
