After using my short shifter for a week, I notice there is a small amount of play (movement) horizontally and vertically. The horizontal play isn't too bad, and it's quite tiny. However, the vertical play is pretty noticable. Anyone else having the same problem with play?

BTW, thanx Tommy for sending my shifter . I got to use it on the track and I had 2 good runs with shifting. The other 2 runs, I kinda botched since I might have not shifted properly.

PTGT Boy, the two bolts holding the upper shifter half to the lower assembly sometimes can loosen. Take the boot off and tighten them or add lock waashers or thread lock to hold them.

Thanks, at first I thought those levers were tight, but after a 2nd inspection taking the booth off, the upper screw was loose.

I received my booger shifter bushings from www.modernperformance.com which costs me $21.99 including shipping. I installed the two on the engine side today and couldn't really tell any difference (I already have the Hurst shifter installed). Maybe the two on the shifter side make more of a difference? I'm not mechanically minded so it took me far too long for the installation. I struggled with getting the large bushing onto the pin. It turns out I had it backwards. The smaller end goes closest to the pin. Had I known that it would have been much easier. I hope the other two bushings go on easy and make a noticeable difference.
I'm sorry PPT, I should have mentioned that earlier in my install reviews as that was one of my big problems too. I was installing the smaller one on the trans first and had it in backwards as well.

As far as the improvements think of them as anti-sponge units. With the stock bushings when you shift into gear it will stop when the gear is fully selected but there will still be some give to it. Positive shift feel is the term I've seen used before. In otherwords when you shift you know you're in gear. I noticed it at the track and during hard shifting during merges on the highway, often with the stock bushings I wasn't sure if I was completely in gear or maybe I'd mis-shifted. They won't make you shifts shorter, just crisper. It is a little hard to tell the difference when you've upgrade the entire shift mechanism at the same time.

Beacon. I was looking at the pictures you posted of the Booger Bushing installation. Was the picture of the two on top of the transmission taken with the big fuse box removed? I don't remember being able to see them that well when last I looked. Thanks. CJ

I didn't take those pics mate, FlashBk2 did, I just added the text. When I swapped mine out I removed the airbox completely as well as the battery and battery tray. I had more than enough room to get at 'em. Removing the power block thingy would be overkill IMO.

Removing the power control module is a pain in the ass.
Getting the bushings into the rings on the tranny side is not hard. Getting leverage enough to squeeze them in nice and snug is another story.

Put the shifter and Booger Bushings in this weekend. Was pretty easy to install but taking the center console out was a real pain. It has edges like razors and I had to make like Hercules to pull the damn emergency brake handle back far enough to get it off. Between the console and the shifter bracket I must have left a pint of blood in the car. However, it shifts pretty slick. I like the way it feels and sounds. So onward and upward. Next weekend Adam's pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body.

And you thought you lost a lot of blood on the shifter, . Hope I didn't start something, but I couldn't resist. [}]

You must be refering to the flame war from that PT Crew site. Quite an interesting read.[8D]
